227 sleeps till I wake up debt free.

I don't know if excited would be the word I would use. I'm going to be 'happy' I think but nothing will change. Only I'll be saving, not paying off. So still have a long term struggle till I rewire my brain completely to be patient and save for things I want instead of the 'I can get it now and pay later mentality'. Last weeks experience in Edinburgh proved I'm not cured yet!:(
I think really longterm we should be better off as I am much more aware of 'frittering' money now, or rather not.
I guess really I'm kind of sad that I stupidly got us in that mess in the first place. The £2683.52 would have been much nicer staying in my bank tomorrow along with the rest of the savings I had earlier this year. As it is when I pay it back it's a 'start from scratch' clean slate! It's hard to weigh it up though as I didn't 'waste' a lot of money on credit, it was used to buy a lot of lovely stuff I still enjoy today. And I'm not sure I'd have been able to do it before I felt the house was sorted....
My future me told me to treat myself, she should have known I had no spare money to do that this week! :rotfl:LBM April 2011 £4906

It's over, I've gone and done it!
In 141 sleeps not the 227 the title claims.
How do I feel? well rather chuffed actually. Decided no point looking back and fretting about things I cannot change. So I'm focusing on being happy with the future
And yesterday when I said the past me should have known I couldn't afford a treat, I would like to apologise to her. She maybe expected me to realise that you don't need money to make happiness. So my 'treat' this morning is to still be in bed, at this stage it's 9.40 and I'm planning to get up at 10  How decadent:rotfl:
I've made the payment back to the loan but it hasn't shown as leaving the account yet. when it does I'll have the grand total of £6.83 in my saving accounts. So next plan of action is to get that built up, won't be quite as speedy as the last 5 months savings as the mortgage overpayments start in December. But will have a look later and try and set some goals to stay focused and on track.
And I have a Belstaff Jacket savings plan to formulate too :rotfl:LBM April 2011 £4906

OMG OMG OMG I am truly happy for you.
I remember when I first saw your diary and thought I'd follow you as it was a little while for you to go and now you're there in no time! It's flown past and doing it quicker than expected is a huge bonus - go you!
Will you start a new diary now or continue with this one until things settle down?
How about treating yourself to a little locket to go round your neck or something to remind you daily of how far you have come. A symbol that will also keep you on the straight and narrow.Debt - CCV £3792

Thanks guys. I've thought long and hard and I really do not want to spend any money to mark the moment. The first large item I buy with cash upfront will be the 'marker'. But it just doesn't feel right to 'spend' now. Seeing as it's that kind of action that got me in the mess.
Still making my plans and will start a shiny new diary when I've got my head round it.LBM April 2011 £4906

Well looks like I never did get my head round a new diary! Here we are 18 months later and how am I doing?
Still debt free :j Still chipping away at the mortgage and slowly saving. Managed a wee holiday and unexpected car repairs without a problem. Was panicking a bit at the thought of daughter leaving college and the effects on tax credits i.e £3000 down a year, eek!. But I've messed about with my money program and think, hope we can carry on as we are with saving/mortgage repaying if I keep a very tight grip on the pennies. Only have 468 days left till hopefully mortgage and truly debt freeLBM April 2011 £4906

Well here I am, reporting back again. But don't worry the news is good!:D
The mortgage has finally been paid off and drumroll please......
I'd saved over £2000 more than I needed to make up the endowment shortfall. And despite all the scrimping and saving to get there my credit card has a lovely big NIL total :j
And hubby has finally, finally got the jacket of his dreams, well he will do when they send the right size I ordered. Its purchase became a whole lot easier when it dawned on him he wasn't actually dreaming of what is now a £550 Belstaff jacket but a Speedwear Jacket coming in at a much less eyewatering £179 and every bit as nice. So sometimes it's very good to wait :rotfl:
So what are we doing now with the extra pennies in our pockets now no mortgage, overpayments or mortgage insurance to pay? Carrying on just as we were, we're used to our budget now so all the money has been divereted into little saving accounts. The bulk of it into longterm savings plus a holiday pot, house pot, and a rainy day pot.
Hope all are well and happy and on the up xLBM April 2011 £4906
