    Was offered 3.9% for 6 months and a 2.5% fee with M&S.

Pretty rubbish so I didn't bother

Rang to cancel my Halifax One Card yesterday after paying off the £6500 balance at the end of a 12 month 0% interest offer.

I was offered 6 months at 0% with a 3% transfer fee or 6.9% for life of balance.

Turned both offers down and said I would only stay with them for a 12 month 0% offer but he just said I could apply for another of their cards.

They tried for 10 minutes to get me to leave the card open, in the end I had to say I was late for an appointment. I have now closed it down and will be applying for a new deal after the 30 day period they quoted before I can take out a new card with Halifax.

They have a good 13 month 0% deal on at the moment, 3% transfer fee.

Yes, Halifax is not renowned for looking after existing card holders. I'm sure you've made the right decision.

Some lenders will not consider applications from former customers for various periods following closure. Others like the Hally accept applicants more or less straight away

IME, it's advisable to check your credit reports to make certain the account was actually closed down and marked "settled" on the date you cancelled before you re-apply ;)

Hi I'm new to forum and will make myself known on the appropriate thread, but...

Today I called Barclaycard (I have the Barclaycard Platinum with normal rate of 10.9%) and said I wanted to cancel my account. They offered me a balance transfer rate of 0% for 6 months or 6.9% for the life of the balance. After telling him I wanted to clear the balance and transfer the maximum from another card he gave me 2.5% fee with 0% for 12 months, until August 2010!

I rang 01604 230230, then asked to speak to someone who could close my account. I was then transferred to a call centre in mersyside who answered "Customer loyalty unit".

    Hope this helps.

How long had you had a clear balance on this card? I have the Barclaycard Platinum too which I cleared a month ago and have since had a zero balance statement. Reckon they would give me a BT?

My account wasn't clear at the time it was maxed. I threatened to leave and so he gave me the offer to clear my card and then transfer a balance to it at 0% for 12 months. Give it a go...

    Hi,

Has been a while since Ive been on here but you may say ive had another lightbulb moment!
ATM I have £5800 on an 8.4% LOB cap one card, wanted to put it on a 0% as dont seem to be making a dent in the balance at the moment. This morning called Barclaycard as wanted to cancel it to free up some credit incase was to apply for a 0%. Was put through to customer loyalty team and the lady offered me 0% until Feb with a 2.5% fee, explained I didnt want to split the debt so would be refusing the offer and so she went on to up my limit to £6500 and allow me to transfer the £5000 on 0% until July 2010 and the £800 on 6.3% LOB with a 1.25% fee. Luckily have managed to find the cash to clear the £800 within a month/6 weeks leaving me until July to make a dent in the £5k. May be worth a call ladies and gentleman as saved the hassle of getting a new card. :T
