  • So my 0% for 15 months deal ended at the end of Jan on my Virgin CC.

I promptly transfered my balance to my new Tesco CC @ 0% for 14 months.

Only to receive a letter from Virgin last week, "advising" that all future balance transfers will be charged a 5% handling fee from 1 April........

Still not sure if its an April fools joke, seriously doubt it though but will see if I can be sneaky and balance transfer a balance back at the old handling fee of 2.98% before the 1st April.

ay these creditcard companies.......guess I just have to pay off my debt and be rid of them and their sneaky ways.....

Thanks for your feedback. There seems to be some variation in dates and percentages. Some forum users received notice of a change last year. Others have been quoted 4% BT fees from 1 April this year.

It's worth remembering that MBNA has a reputation for regular, follow-on offers, once your balance is paid off in full. This lender will even waive BT fees sometimes, if you're prepared to negotiate over the phone. I've had offers as good or better than the introductory deals now and again ;)

Is it worth doing an Experian Credit Check? If so what are the negatives about running this kind of check?

As far as I'm aware there are no negatives about doing a credit check as I try to do one each year to make sure nothing is on there that shouldnt be. I would advice getting a report from all three credit agencies though - Experian, Call Credit and Equifax.

  • Hi - sorry, another question to add to this thread...

I have an M&S credit card which I haven't used for about six months. It's still active, with a £0 balance and a £7000 credit limit.

I'd like to transfer a balance on to it and start using it again, but when I called they said there are 'no facilities for balance transfers' at the moment. They said it wasn't anything to do with my account, which is fine - they're just not offering any balance transfers, at promotional rates or otherwise to existing cardholders.

Is that right? I'm giving them a chance to make some money from me! Any ideas would be great (is there any way I can make them change their minds?). Thanks very much!

Ditto, I asked them also, as I wanted to BT some over from another card and was told the same.

The following thread is for people to post what Balance transfer offers they have actually !been given by their existing credit card companies. !To see the context of this thread please read my article 'the Credit Card Shuffle' by clicking

IMPORTANT NOTE: Please remember this is about EXISTING customer balance transfers, it is not the 'new cardholder offers. What would be helpful is if you noted when you got the card, and how long you'd had it when they gave you asked for a new balance transfer deal.

If anyone is thinking about getting a credit card, think again, take it from me its the worst thing you could ever do, yeah they are great to begin with but as soon as those credit card statements start coming through your letterbox and asking you for £120 a month, it becomes one hellova struggle.

Can you explain what this has to do with credit card balance transfers? All your posts are promoting the above web site, so can only assume you are spamming
  • I applied for a A&L % card as Virgin 0% finished and i was declined, 1st time ever!!
So i decided to call my other lenders this morning who i owe nothing to and this is what i was offered

    HSBC 19.9% no BT offer
    Halifax 7.92% Life of Balance
    MINT 3.9% for 6 months :j

Not fortuntate enough to get a 0% however will save me a nice bit of money compared with Virgins current rate and i will aim to pay off in 6 months.

They are not a problem for everyone though. I have held many many Credit Cards in recent years, and never pay interest. They actually provide a modest additional income to pay for the luxuries in life. The key is just to be clear on how you are going to manage them.

Admitedly they may not be for everyone, I appreciate that.
