ClaireyBear - my mw didn't say anything about spanx when she diagnosed SPD in me the other day, though I have had 'some' luck with the instruction to 'keep my knees together' (which OH finds hilarious!) - getting in and out of the car, in & out of bed, turning over in bed & generally everywhere you can - not taking the stairs where poss etc and mine has eased somewhat (until I get into bed anyway!) I'd try that first if the Spanx are expensive.

    Hello everyone,

I've been lurking over the last couple of weeks, and kept meaning to register and say hi but to be honest, pigpen's posts about how much work she's been doing around the house always left me feeling too tired and lazy to post!

I'm 28 weeks along tomorrow with first baby, and we're having a boy. He's due on the 30th September, and I'd be rather interested if anyone has any ideas on how to stop time going so fast! :o

I saw the midwife this morning for check up etc, and described the excruciating pelvic pain that I've been having for the last few days - she advised that it's SPD, and recommended that I get some Mama Spanx pants. Before I spend an obscene amount of money on these, could any other SPD sufferers advise if they're worth it, or if there's anything else that could help besides going to the physio for Tubigrip? :(

Nice to meet you all, and wishing you all the very best in your pregnancies and safe deliveries.

Sorry... I shall try not to mention my slavery :p

New windows just been measured up and now looking at my budget to pay for them.. BEFORE the baby arrives....

How do I get myself into these things?

    Congratulations.. and welcome!

Slowing time... do nothing.. nothing at all... you are so bored time drags... or become nocturnal... nights are always twice as long as days.

  • Skint Catt - thanks very much - I'll see how that goes over the next few days...if I fall over then it's all your fault!
I guess this is the part that I start regretting moving into a 3 storey house recently...impossible to avoid stairs.

Pigpen - thank you very much. I actually marvel at your energy. I can barely pull myself up from my desk sometimes to go to the loo! Unfortunately I'm self employed and can only daydream at the moment about doing nothing...I shall consider the nocturnal part though!

I don't have any energy.. if I sit down I go to sleep and the children destroy the house.. so I keep moving.

Ive just moved out of a 3 storey house! Make sure you only go up & down when absolutely necessary. Take the stairs at home slowly, oh and sit down when dressing & undressing as the 'stork' stance can increase pain (and you fall over trying to put your knickers on :o I do feel very guilty about not taking the stairs at work (I only work on the first floor people must think I'm a right lazy so-and-so!) so I do take them first thing, then the lift after that.

Thank you - will definitely be trying the sitting down thing when getting dressed, why didn't I think of that?!

At the moment I feel like a hybrid of Mrs Overall and the nan from the Catherine Tate Show - so much for all that stuff about blooming earth mothers during pregnancy! Humph! :o

Hey, if we're going to start comparing glowing-fictional-earth-mother-type things again and collectively decide we all feel/look rubbish, I'm quite happy to jump in with my size 9 feet and point out my boss suggested I be used as a doorstop..... :) I feel as if my stomach is trying to slide off me, and thinking I may go swimming tonight- just to feel weightless.......

I started getting pelvic pain around 16 weeks although mine is at the back and coincides with loud clunking noises. I've been doing similar to the things skint_Catt suggested and it's helped no end. I also take care stepping out if the bath (it has high sides) to stand sideways and lift my knee up instead of out, sleep with a pillow between my knees to keep hips aligned when lying on side (but be careful not to cross your feet as this brings out whole new levels of pain), don't even think about hoovering or pushing a big trolley round the supermarket and generally avoid things where you have to twist and stretch. Wallpapering nearly killed me and I only did one wall - pigpen, DON'T DO IT.
