I've just sent a text, so I'll see what she says! Asked her what the support for new mothers was, and about breastfeeding etc.

I'm in Belfast, and there is a few hospitals round about me but my surgery have referred me to a specific one. A girl from my OH's work was referred there but after her first scan asked to be moved, she really didn't get a good vibe from the place at all.

The reports I've read are really bad, no support for breast feeding, dirty wards and showers etc, everything is really old fashioned, over crowding. :(

I'm booked for the Ulster, the maternity wards are all brand new now and I'm hoping to get into the home from home rooms. I've only ever heard good things from the Royal. I know they have breast-feeding co-ordinators at both hospitals. I certainly wouldn't worry yourself Gilly.
The only thing that would worry me about being booked into the Royal, would be getting through the city centre traffic and finding a car-parking place before baby puts in an appearance :D

I've heard great things about the Ulster, bit far away for me though, we're in the city centre almost.

Apricot Thanks, I may well do that :)

Royal's alright for access if you hop onto the Westlink. Mat entrance is directly on their main road through the complex, easy enough I'd imagine to get dropped off quickly at! Parking entrances just a little bit after. It's certainly cheaper to park at the Royal compared to Antrim!

Hi, there are midwives that can show you what to do, answer any questions and check to see how you're doing. They are very good.

    Hope that helps!

just been to see the midwife for a check up, she said i'm measuring 29 although i'm almost 32wks, i think she's wrong as i am huge ( was a student midwife and she was faffing about with the tape measure alot) baby is also laid across ways so maybe thats why i'm not measuring as big????
been given pregaday pills cos my BP is low, i am so tired all the time it's unreal.
was also asked if i fancied a home birth as both my previous babies have been born very fast (90 mins and 17 mins) without drugs or complications, i wouldnt mind it but OH is a bit of a neat freak and i know he'd have a fit at the thought of having this baby at home, lol.
i'm really starting to panic now tho as baba is due at the start of sept, my daughter starts full time school the same time and she has diabetes, so for the 1st few weeks i'm gonna be back an forth to the school supervising insulin injections, i'm worn out just thinking about it! god knows what'll happen if i have a section, eeeek!
    Skint, but happy (ish):p

A little far from the city centre? i'm going there and I live in north Antrim! (did not fancy Antrim or Coleraine - OH thinks I'm bonkers as effectively we'll drive past 3 maternity hospitals to get there). The Royal is in need of modernisation, yes, but the care is excellent. I believe there will be new maternity wards in the new building that's going up there at the moment, it was supposed to be finished later this year but i don't know if that's still the case?

That's great, thanks :) it really is the closest place to me which is a good thing. It also has the highest amount of births per year out of all the hospitals in N.I and has all the specialist care for poorly babies and problem pregnancies so I'm assuming that's why the C Section rate is so high.

Well further than the Royal and The mater :p we're in south Belfast but almost the city centre. This has really cheered me up abit and calmed me down. New maternity wards at the Royal? I'm not due til January so that would be good.

I sent Rockinbikergal a message on Facebook anyway as not sure how often she comes on here anymore.

Do you want to go on the due date list gillyx?
