All Irish dad's I've ever met are so laid back compared to the mums, it's realllly weird. I can actually imagine the above situation going down in my OH's parents house.

Oh yeah, that's true, it's a feature of Northern Ireland!

    Typical example-

My mum will yell my dad's name.... 'Come here quick!!!!'
Dad will wander over (used to it) 'Right what's wrong?'
'Look! Just look! There's a huge.... spider! Look'
My dad will then use all of his Army training and correctly defuse the situation by lifting said spider (who's likely terrified) and moving it- to Mum's shoulder.

Ah sorry- I've just realised your first post referred to daily phone calls.... I'm used to the daily bugle while dad tries to find one of us....

Omg Irish mums must all just be the same. My OH's mum just yells and yells (not like in a angry way or anything) I think it's just her manner. It's hilarious though. I'm apparently turning into his mum though

Lol. Come to a BBQ at my parents sometime, they love company. Starts as a BBQ for family, and ends up usually around 20ish minimum, with food for 40...

I'm probably the loudest person I know, so I'm sure I'd survive :p

I am awake. This is not a good thing. I cannot get comfortable but I don't know why because I'm not really in much pain, just fidgetty.

Have come downstairs so DH can try and get some sleep, but I'm bored now lol.

Anyway, does anyone else think it's wrong we have to pay for parking at all?

Also, how far do people live from the hospital in minutes by car or foot or bus?

Finally, noticed people were discussing washing powder earlier. Does anyone use anything other than fairy?

I have used fairy religiously for the last 7 years, since moving out as anything else irritated my skin. However, recently our washing machine decided it didn't like the powder and would therefore leave residue all over our clothes. So I tried those bubble things, they worked brilliantly and left no residue, but I can't believe how expensive they are. This week I bought some Tesco own Non Bio bubble things, and touch wood, they don't seem to be upsetting my skin, and are cleaning the clothes nicely. DH was noooot happy, he thought they would ruin our clothes. (He doesn't mind eating Tesco own fruit and fibre which could ruin his insides though). Incase anyone is particularly interested, the fairy was £6.99 for 20 washes, and the Tesco was £4 or 2 for £6 for 20 washes so much much cheaper.

Anyhow, hopefully someone else is still up to read and reply to my waffling! ;-)

I live nearly an hour away by car from the hospital i have been told to go to.... my DD1 arrived very quickly (i was in the hospital 15 minutes before she arrived!) so i am pooing myself. I cant see that I will get there

So tired earlier i couldnt think how much our hospital parking was, despite having been there 6 times in 3 months.

15 mins free, then upto 2 hours £2, upto 3 hours £3, upto 4 hours £4 etc, then over 5 hours £6. But if you will be back and forth over a week, you can get a weeks pass for £12 which seems reasonable.

Unfortunately all my closest hospitals are pretty poor, so i refused them all, and opted for one that gets an "excellent" in the hospital ratings. However this comes at a cost- a minimum legal journey time of 45mins, and if there is traffic, easily 1 1/2 hours. I find some reassurance in that there is absolutely no history of quick births anywhere in my family - 12 hours once hitting hospital seems normal, so i should have plenty of notice to get there! Plus traffic in London is so dire anyway, that if i went to one of the bad but close ones, it would probably still take a minimum 25 minutes!
