Morning all! Hope your weekends have been nice and sunny? It was lovely here on Saturday!

My mum isn't speaking to me. I came home from a baby shower yesterday evening and she asked if I wanted dinner. They were having steak and I've really gone off red meat so said I didn't fancy it. She then asked what I'd eaten that day and before I could answer started saying "you've had no fruit or vegetables which is not good for that baby, you need to have a better diet and eat properly".

It really got my back up so I just said "Mum, I don't need or want you to comment on or track my diet thanks".

She then told me I didn't have to be so rude and that I couldn't control what she thought or said to which I said "no, but you can"... And it kind of blew up from there :( My stepdad bless him, told her off for it and then she spent the rest of the evening cross with him as well! My mum has always been a difficult character and having not lived with her for 5+ years I've managed to dodge it, but I've been back here for 9 days and she's driving me nuts already. I could go to my dad's or OH's parents house to stay there instead, but knowing what she's like that will also offend her.

Grr - just really upset as we'd moved home to be closer to friends and family and I'm already wound up. Things like she has decided that she needs a nickname for the baby so has been telling everyone what "we" been calling it. No mum, that's what you call it. She's also cross because we won't tell her our names, and then tries to make suggestions to us and gets stroppy when we stop listening. Then we were talking about getting married next year and announced that she will make the cake. We said that as OH's mum is a chef we'd thought that she would do that. Mum said, "Oh I wanted to do one with icing that looks like lace... I'll just do it anyway". I had thought that I'd ask her to make my dress as she's pretty nifty with a sewing machine, but someone pointed out that that could well be recipe for a disaster given who she is. She even started saying to me the other day "If you want to get married in September next year you need to sort your dress" and I said "well, given that I'm nearly 6 months pregnant and have to find somewhere to live and have a baby, then get back in shape, it's not really a priority" and she said "well it is a priority for me if I'm making it, you can't leave it til the last minute".....

    ARGH.

I had a cry to OH last night that I'm petrified that I'll end up driving my own kids mad. It's such a one-way street with her... My brother barely speaks to her because she's always on his back about something (ie he came round the other day to see me and then popped out in the garden to smoke and before she even said hello she said "Ugh. I see your still smoking. That's pretty disgusting isn't it") and I'm honestly beginning to feel that I need to keep her at arms length so that we all stay sane when the baby comes. She seems to think because she birthed us she (still) has the absolute right to say anything to us whether we like it or not. I'm horrified to think that I might do the same.

    Gah. Families.

Blue Monkey You just need to breathe and remember you're not there forever. Are you looking for somewhere else to live at the moment? Hoping you find something soon xx

Blue, it's always harder as well when you're just back. There were several homicide attempts when I initially moved back in and near my parents after years away!

Breathe, think of baby, and buy a dress off Ebay! :)

Morning ladies :) hope you all had a lovely weekend.

I've been this morning and done the bank, post office and starbucks run, now I'm home and will probably have to nap by the time 1 o clock comes around. :o

Oh a fellow coffee addict:D I've just sent OH out for a starbucks, I can't get enough of caramel machiatos since being home from hospital. Between those and the amount of biscuits I'm eating I swear I'm bigger now than I was in pregnancy:o

Ecoelle, I really hope this is it for you. The majority of my contractions (and all of them for the first 2 days at home) were in my back so it sounds like things are starting. Try and get some rest now if you can and good luck x Bunnyhop good luck with your induction too.

Clarieloo, many congrats on the birth of Leo (lovely name). I've just read your birth story and you handled what happened to you amazingly well from the sounds of it. I'm sure that must have been very scary though and I hope you're feeling ok about it now. I'll keep an eye out for you on the parenting thread when I eventually find time to move over- it would be great to see, and compare, how our little ones are getting on.

I don't think I'll be posting a birth story just yet. I feel ok about how it all went despite the emergency c/s and I worry that if I think about it too much I might not be ok with it (if that makes sense lol).

Caramel Machiatos are so yummy. I was sensible and had a decaf skimmed latte and a buttery croissant. I have a starbucks at the end of my road, it's a nightmare for just nipping up.

I want it out.. right now.. I have REALLY had enough and have no idea how I am going to cope with school runs from Wednesday.. I cant even walk to the loo! I feel sick I hurt so much this morning..

OH keeps offering to help with the things I can actually do... but stuff like vacuuming and mopping and cleaning and washing which i cant he just stands and watches... I am getting REALLY pi55ed off with him.. (and everyone else in the word.. and everything)

What I wouldnt give for a shower right now.. I feel disgustingly filthy.. I havent had a shower since the end of July :(

Wish I knew what to suggest, short of throwing the contents of the mop bucket over him anyway.

Will he not even help you into the bath for a shower?

Blue - sounds like one of those situations that you just can't win in! Hope you find somewhere of your own really soon.

Debs - happy maternity leave :D

I'm normally a skinny cappucino girl (except when its eggnog latte time:D) but have been giving into my sugar cravings since giving birth- I figure the diet will have to happen soon enough so I'm making the most of now lol Our starbucks is just a 5 minute drive away and opens late every night now so not good for my waistline or my wallet!

Ohhhh..... coffee! I had to freeze all mine as it was starting to give me heartburn- and decaff just isn't the same. :(

There's a Starbucks near me too, though I only like the special coffees, like gingerbread lattes from them- they roast the beans too hot and destroy all the flavour in my branch.

    Debs- enjoy mat leave!
  • its really hit me today that i am actually pregnant. i went for a wander to the docs and then to the butchers and by the time i was home i was knackered and sore. im going to freak out big time if my mobility goes as its one thing to potter gently round the house and stop when im tired but feeling like i could sit down in the middle of the street is something else that ive never had before even when my backs gone in the past and ive had to go out. i even managed a costco shop and huge mothercare haul last week but if i attempted that today i think i would give up before i even got there.

im so tempted to drive to the midwife on wednesday even though its practically at the end of the road, but will see how i am come wednesday.

im also starting to get a baby bump which i didnt think i would do due to being big to start with. none of my jeans now fit and im not buying bigger so thankfully my work trousers are stretchy and have a lot of give in them so them along with a few pairs of joggers will have to see me through.

Blue Monkey i would smile, nod and let her get on with it and do what you had planned originally. my mum is like that as well to some degree and i dont think i could stand living in the same house with her again and think you are wonderful for putting up with it :A
