Lirin you look great. I'm 25 weeks and I'm half expecting to have a bump like yours in 2 weeks time (eeek). Feels like I'm growing by the second! Saying that, to begin with my bump would start the morning small and get bigger and harder during the day, now it seems to be the opposite. Also (TMI alert) if I have a large, erm, bowel movement, it deffo goes down smaller.
SFW I don't know much about diabetes - do you need to reduce or increase your sugar? From looking at your food there doesn't seem to be much goodness.... Can you try snacking on raw carrots, celery/pepper sticks, hummous etc? And replace the crisps with fruit (though not sure if that would also be too sugary). I'd say you need more veggies, even if it means stuffing your sarnie with lettuce and cucumber. Could you try Ryvita with Philadelphia, or have some chicken instead of cheese? Avocados are really filling, and lovely spread on toast or in salads. Just try to think of a healthier alternative when you go to grab something - and it might take a bit of planning as it's so much easier to reach for the biccies or snacks instead of peeling a carrot!! I'm one to talk though - munched my way through a bar of plain cooking chocolate yesterday because it was the only sweet thing in the house!!!
I spoke to the midwife yesterday and told her that I need to get in the "system" as I'm just moved back to the area and 25 weeks gone. She seemed quite nice, very brisk and no faffing and booked me in for 3 weeks time... She also said there'd been a bit of a baby boom locally so everything was jam-packed. It was the same in Aus, wonder if it's a worldwide thing?
She also said that the NHS antenatal classes were for 3 consecutive Thursdays 9.30am - 12.00pm which I was a bit surprised about - I'd always imagined them in the evenings for about 6 weeks... I'm working from home so can easily nip out for a few hours, but OH is paid by the hour and starts early (ie between 6am and 8am) so will lose quite a significant amount of cash if he comes with me (which he wants to do obv). We are booked into evening NCT classes too, but it just seemed odd that the NHS ones aren't at such a convenient time....0 -
Hey folks, I never had my name in the due date list and only posted a few times but read the thread every day - I was supposed to be due on 11th September but our little girl made a surprise early appearance in the early hours of Wednesday morning - 31st August (luckily school year cut off date here in NI is June!) Had niggles on Monday overnight, then contractions on and off on Tuesday, we went to the hospital about tea time on Tuesday but were sent home around 8pm as the contractions had stopped (doh!) although I was 2-3cm dilated. About 11pm things really started kicking off, my waters broke at 11:30 so we headed back to the hospital at midnight (which was a hell of a drive as we live 40 miles from the hospital and after the waters broke I was getting contractions every 3 minutes!!). Arrived in hospital about 1am and by the time they examined me i was 8-9cm so rather chuffed I managed most of that stage with no drugs at all! I had a remi-fentanyl drip put in - I think people were asking about it a few weeks ago? Well I thought it was great stuff! You press the button and get a shot of it delivered which only lasts a few minutes, but it really took the edge off things. Wasn't allowed to use it for the latter parts of the pushing phase though as it made me a little too dopey and her head wasn't engaged quite right so it was a helluva job getting it out! Took me almost 2 hours of pushing. But she made it safe and sound at 5:20am, 7lbs 7oz. Best thing of all? No stitches. Yay! Good luck girls, it's really not as bad as I thought it would be. But pushing is bloomin hard work!
Congrats!! :T
Last day in work for me - weird to think I don't need to come back here for another 9 months!! :T
xDxFear is temporary, regret is forever.....:happyhear Baby girl born 27th September - 10 days late!! :happyhear0 -
Lirin  I think I'll end up quite big thoughWonder_Womble wrote: »Lirin, you look about the same size as me, although I think I'm a bit wider. Personal question but is your bra underwired? If not I'm very jealous!
Lol, thanks.....Bra was underwired- I took them out. I'm a J-K cup now, which is a little scary......Blue_Monkey wrote: »Lirin you look great. Thank you.... Mine's neat enough in the morning, then gets huge as the day goes on. End of day is eclipse time.0 -
I do keep getting comments that I must be ready to pop, that I'm huge, am I sure of the due date etc.... I think maybe I look bigger as well because I seem to have lost weight everywhere else- it's all just loaded on bump and boobs (hence the very sore back!) It is a bit scary though- I do get so many comments telling me I'm huge, and sometimes it's a little worrying....
ddebski- I'm jealous.I'm waiting for the last day too! Though mine's a couple of months off yet. Put your feet up, drink tea, and remark how nice it is to have a long holiday to anyone who passes...... (I know it's not, but the longest I ever had off was a month around my wedding, so it looks like a lovely holiday right now. When I'm irritable and up for the third time that night with a crying baby, I know it'll be a little different.)

Morning all!
Congrats thetope!
Gorgeous bump Lirin! I was a little bigger than you at 28 weeks so I'd say you're about right! Last weeks growth scan showed an average size baby with a fair amount of fluid so don't worry about growing a huge one!
Did you pop Piggers? Sounds like you're not far off! *Winnie scuttles off, scoffs curry and DTD lots - out of sheer jealously*
Hugs Kandboys - I hope you get something sorted out, you certainly have plenty of medical reasons to need a c-section. They've stopped all elective c-sections down here as part of the cost cutting which I think is horrendous.
Happy last day before ML Debs!
I don't know much about GD Seafarers Wife, but I remember BCS had it a couple of months back and she got a referral to a dietician so maybe you could ask your midwife/doctor to sort something like that out for you?
I had my cheeseburger for tea last night and then didn't sleep a wink for the bloody thing repeating on me all nightah well, will teach me to indulge!
I got that pain in the top of my bump again yesterday so rang the on call midwife, explained all the hospital stuff from last week and she's decided I have an irritable uterus. I informed her that right now I have an irritable everything so thats no great surprise to me. Seriously though, anyone heard that before? Irritable uterus? Sounds like an excuse to me...0 -

Sorry Winnie, that one set me off for a bit!0 -

Morning all I'm feeling a little more positive today although I hardly slept. Have contacted my midwife - luckily she's a friend and I can text/facebook message her lol! She said this new policy came in about 2 weeks ago which is typical of me. She doesn't agree with it as she said there will be more emergency c-sections with mums who are due an elective going into labour then ending up with the section. Which is so true. She's next in on Monday so she is going to see if she can get me in to see the consultant I had last time who wanted me in for an early section with DS2 and ended up deliveirng him with a little bit of told you so lol! It might not come to anything but if I can see her armed with my arguments for having an earlier section I'll at least feel I've done something.
The section itself isn't in dispute, it's just the timing. And when you are carrying a humungous baby and have SPD, 2/3 weeks can make all the difference!Thank you to everyone for sharing competitions!0 -
seafarers_wife wrote: »im so excited. i have 20 days of actual work to get through before i go on maternity leave on the 5th october :jplus ive got 3 days holiday booked in which is why its 20 days and not 23
means i am going mega early though but im struggling at the moment with everything and my house is desending back into tip status and i just feel very blah so the early i go so i can get things the way i want them and get organised the better im feeling.
do any of you ladies have gestational diabetes? ive been told i have it even though im right on the boderline for it and not really sure how to ajust my eating habits as im so fussy to compensate for it. at the moment in still having to force myself to eat food let alone regular meals and i know regular meals are something i should be doing. could you give me a sample of your typical menu if you do have it so i can see where i can improve on as my menu yesterday was like this
Breakfast - bowl of coco pops (now binned them and my wheetos)
snack - 2 hash browns
lunch - cheese sarnie, dairylea dunker, bag of crisps, can of coke - no more coke as i saw how that lunch messed with my blood a few hours later
dinner - 1/3lb lean steak mince with taco spice, 3 taco shells and a handful of cheese
then snack later on a handful of mini twirl bites
ok best drag my behind to work
I dont (think) i have GD, but am going to the GTT at 28 weeks as my dad has diabetes and my mum had GD with all 3 of her kids.
I dont know whether you're getting too much or too little sugar but it matters little with the diet TBH. General diabetic diet advice -
Remember not to over look things like white bread which have a rediculous amount of sugar in them, switch to wholegrain bread if you cant live without it.
Carbohydrates are just more complex sugars (fruits, sweets, soft drinks, breads, pastas, beans, potatoes, bran, rice, and cereals) so whilst you neednt cut these out completely - (you need your fruit!) You should be mindful about what you eat and when. IE. If you eat a whole shed load of fruit in one go you'll get one hell of sugar rush once they are broken down, but if you have a bit of a munch here and there its a gradual increase and wont have such a large effect.
No more coco pops or coke! If you cant do without your coke then coke zero is an option as it has no sugar in it.
You just need a generally more balanced diet - alot of the stuff you ate was sugar or carbs!:jProud mummy to a beautiful baby girl born 22/12/11 :j0 -
