Im mega excited, ive just ordered my cot and mattress :j

ive gone for this one http://www.johnlewis.com/231264369/Product.aspx as its gorgeous and in the sale as well which is a bargin. wasnt planning on getting a cot bed, but talking to my mum she persuaded me its better cost wise to get a cotbed as it will last longer. was only planning on spending £250 on cot and mattress so for the extra £50 i thought what the heck :j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j

I just need moses basket stand, bath stand, some plain bedding, baby clothes, bouncer, play mat, some bottles and im all set for baby. not bad for 20weeks pregnant :rotfl:

BaileyB ive got for a silver cross surf pram as even though its a bit more expensive, because ive got problems with my back its so light weight and easy to put up and down that even if my back went again i can manage it.http://www.johnlewis.com/231236071/Product.aspx ive gone for it in black though but OH wants it in red. we got it through babyplan with mothercare and got a cracking deal on it. basically when we bought it we got the carrycot for free :money:

Thinking about it we are planning on keeping the Moses basket downstairs for baby to sleep in. With DS1 and DS2 we brought it down every morning - what a faff!! So will have to get new sheets anyway. But crib sheets seem rarer than moses basket ones

I can't understand why people spend so much money on baby stuff you know. I've gotten most stuff for free (I like recycling) like my mamas and papas monster pram. I have to buy a new combed mattress, I bought one if the Moses baskets half price but I've been given ALL of the baby clothes and all of the bambino mio nappies! I've bought newborn disposable nappies as don't trust the new baby poo on my reusables and wipes etc, new
Cot sheets and a new pushchair at £70 that is a copy of a maclaren but it's called something else and it's like green. Oh and changing mats.

But I'll have spent a tenth compared to some people!
    Money money money.

I kind of agree abby. Baby doesn't know if it's in a £800 pram or a £100 one. All we have really bought this time round is the crib so that baby can be in with us for the 6 months. My boys are always so tall and don't fit the moses basket for long!

We decided on mamas and papas Sola from reading the reviews in Which. Couldnt justify spending the cash, so managed to track down one on ebay, barely used and saved £180!

I get what your saying Abby, but although Im spending a heck of a lot its all considered purchases, im not just going willynilly and buying for the sake of buying.

Ive no issue with 2nd hand things whatsoever and will happily sell/give the bits I've bought away when im finished with them but for me and OH, its our first baby, probably going to be our only child and as we can afford to buy everything new and not have to cut costs elsewhere to do so we are happy to do this.

    Hi everyone :)

First day of maternity leave today :) just pottered about the house and popped to Tesco so not really done very much but have enjoyed it nonetheless :)

I'm another one who has been very lucky with things being given to us. My oh's dad bought our pram (silver cross 3d), my mam and dad bought us a cotbed and my sister is buying our car seat :) we've also been given LOADS of clothes, a baby bouncer, baby walker, three different play gyms / baby nests etc.... The only things we have bought have been some nappies and some sleep suits. There is very little we still need to get :) Both my mam and my oh's mam have also been buying baby toiletries, wipes etc to go in hampers for when flump is here :)

One thing we do still need to get is reusable nappies. I'm planning on using terries with the motherease wraps so will probably get them next pay day.

Is there anyone else planning on using reuseables? Which ones are you going to go for? Has anyone used terries before?

We are getting the tutti bambini three bears cotbed.. it is £200 in m/care.. and obv. we need the mattress too.. OHs mum offered to pay for it but I dont want to pay full whack because I am a cheapskate! It is however the only thing we are getting.. other than the 2 towels everything else was Squeaks.. bar a couple of outfits and some new cardies.. assuming I EVER finish knitting anything! I only buy white sleepsuits so nothing else is needed :D

We are getting a changing table.. I think they are a complete waste of time and money but OH thinks it might be useful so I relented.. after all he does change the majority of the stinky bums! :D.. I got new bedding as well from M&P it had 75% off.. it cost less to buy the the full bedding set with 2 blankets and extra sheets than it would have to buy just the bed set at full price.. so I was happy.

We are keeping Squeak in with us so we dont need to buy a new monitor.. see.. cheapskate!

To be fair I am also a student who will be a single parent technically! So I am not in the same position as someone who works and has the ability to buy new things for their little one. The lime green pushchair is new though..........you won't miss me in the dark, its so bright its practically glow in the dark

Edit: And I just like recycling!! Apart from the white baby gros with stains on...they will be hidden at the back of the cupboard ^^

I was given bambino mios although ave bought a couple of the covers. Was also given some posh french ones that we can't work out, so have taken the liners from them (towelling shaped like panty liners) that I reckon will work as boosters. I'm really just going to do my own thing and see what works!

But for the first two weeks I plan to use disposables whilst I get used to the fact that there is a baby!!!!

I'm planning to use reusables and washable wipes, have been reading about them on various sites and dithering over which ones to go for. i liked the sound of the bumgenius ones, although they are at the pricier end of the range. Then i went to the nappy lady site the other day and filled in her questionnaire to get tailored advice. I got a 14 page (!) reply with LOADS of helpful info on it, plenty of food for thought. She recommended little lamb inners for my requirements with a different brand of wrap (can't remember off the top of my head). I'm planning to use disposables for the first couple of weeks till my head's screwed on straight - several of the real nappy sites offer trials for a small fee, so i might give that a go before committing.
