Hiya I spotted in sainsburys that if you register with their mum and baby club then you get a free pack with nappies, wipes, washing machine liquid, tissues, changing mat and some other things. You join online at www.sainsburys.co.uk/littleones and they will send you a welcome pack with the coupon to trade in at the store for the free newborn buddle pack worth £9.99. I am awaiting my voucher so I can get more free nappies.
Can I ask a question. I have DD who is 4.5yrs - anyway we have kept the infant car seat but been told by someone that we can use this as we will be using within 5yrs - due in November but someone else in a baby shop says use within 4yrs. Not sure if we have to buy another car seat. Any comments grateful.MFIT T2 Challenge - No 46

Lynn.. I would buy a new car seat if you use it often.. Or if you travel long distances.. you don't know if the webbing straps have become frail or weakened with age and I don't think it is worth the risk. We are re-using ours but it was bought for Squeak last summer so only a year old, older than that I'd buy new. The safety regulations change and the manufacture means newer ones are safer.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0

What furniture has everyone else decided on?
We have ordered a chest of drawer with a changer top from mothercare the other week. Still got cot bed in loft which will be unpacked nearer the time and there is a built in wardrobe which will be repainted so looking good. We have a folding up table which will go in the room with one of our dining room chairs for feeds - we used this previously with DD with the lights dimed low.MFIT T2 Challenge - No 46

Wow, you've been through it too. They detected the hole in the heart at the 20 week anomaly scan? thought they'd only see HLHS etc.
It is a worrisome time as you know, but you do the best for your child i guess. I think ours wasn't downs risk soo much but risk for the rarer syndromes.
I found the antenatal test scan community on babycentre to be really good as it had many other people in similar situations to ours.
So sorry that you are having bad news and commend you for working through it, hope the soft markers are just 'soft' and you get the best possible outcome. For us it was like being hit by a car, going from the 16% odds though with each passing test, CVS and the 20 week scan has been true moments of joy.
I feel hardened by the whole process, nothing really matters in life, work or anything like your family.
For us our odds of getting any chromsome problem was like 1 in 1.6.. (65%) so we had to get CVS.
We are only due to have the equivalent of your 24 week scan, echocardiagram or something.. not sure what the 28 week is, maybe for soft markers again?
One thing i really hated was the consultants matter of fact attitude like he knew for sure something was wrong with our baby, well so far he has been proved wrong and our boy is a fighter.
We had our 20 week anomaly scan at the Foetal Medicine Unit as we had self referred there after being high risk in our bloods. Our midwife was doing nothing so I go on the telephone and spoke to the maternity co ordinator and she sorted it all for me.
The Down's doesn't phase me as much as the rarer syndromes such as Edward's or Patau's would. If we had been told we were high risk for those then we would have had the amnio.
I know what you mean that suddenly nothing else matters now except your family. Funny thing is that I work with people with learning disabilities and a lot have Down's, and I do my best every day but right now my heart isn't really in my job. It can't be when I have so much going on in my head and heart.
Yeah, our 24 week scan is an echocardiagram, and the 28 week is another ultrasound to look at baby's digestive system and for any more soft markers.
I agree the Consultants can be so harsh and matter of fact about it. On the day we had our blood results ours told us we were having an amnio that afternoon as it was the only time he could do it. I was totally taken aback, I was very distressed and crying say to him I couldn't have an amnio that day as I didn't even know if I wanted one, I hadn't even discussed it with my OH so couldn't possible agree to it! Anyway we decided against it as we felt it was too much to risk a miscarriage.
I think with the soft markers that we already have, I have already accepted that baby has Down's. In fact I will be more surprised if he/she doesn't have Down's. Family, friends and work colleagues all know the situation and have been incredibly supportive.
I'm so glad to hear a positive story of when the parents of followed their hearts and the specialists have been proven wrong. I know they can only do their job to the best of their ability with the information and technology they have, and I have total respect for them, but it still warms my heart when parent's instinct wins0 -
I have a lot of Down's members in my family. Yes, there are difficulties, and it is rough at times- it can be frustrating, and heartbreaking at times. The care and attention needed is usually lifelong, and depending on the severity, it can be hard explaining some things. BUT- it's also so very, very rewarding. I've worked as a volunteer in a Down's social club- and the joy and smiles- it was such a friendly, loving place, and so much unconditional love.
Obviously your first instinct is to hope against it, and I do sincerely hope for you both that the results are what you want- but although hard, it isn't a dark corner if the diagnosis is Downs. I know that's maybe very clumsy words, I hope it hasn't come out wrong..0 -
That's a lovely post Lirin.
No news my end. I feel quite content being close to the end and not desperate to evict just yet. I've got plenty of organising stuff to do before baby shows up so I'm cracking on with that boring stuff today so that when my baby arrives I can devote all my time to him.
My pelvic/pubic pain has totally gone again (??) and I'm not suffering a great deal at all, in fact last night was one of the best sleeps I've had in months!0 -
Do you know I hear about people's stories where they are not sure about whether their baby is going to be healthy or not and I think about people's comments about gender and I feel does it really matter??! All that matters is that baby is healthy and next time I get a negative comment I am going to tell them exactly that. Hugs to neas and WW xxxThank you to everyone for sharing competitions!0
