Why did I pack watermelon for lunch today? It's what I wanted last night, but as I feel like a watermelon today, I don't really want to eat it. Feel like I'm going to split open like a melon, and resembled a tortoise last night- was drilling a hole through the ceiling was lying on floor above sorting out drill- couldn't get up! DH had a little laugh at me before deciding to help....

Abby, move in! If it feels right. I met DH on the internet (car owners website- he cleaned my car.). I moved in 3 weeks later, as I knew we were getting on well. Got sick of waiting to be asked to marry a bit later, as I knew that was inevitable, so I asked him. 5 years together now, just over a year married- best decision I've ever made.

Um, not that I'm terribly impulsive.... :) Just go with the flow.

You are very healthy! I have baby new potatoes and a few sausages. Yesterday was a large portion of pasta bake. Don't think i could manage these days without loads of carbs :D
Usually have an apple but made the mistake of drinking lemonade late last night, and suffered heartburn all night and still got it this morning. Think i'll avoid the fruit incase it makes it worse.

Also had a sleepless night wondering where my 20 week scan photos are, as i want that free Nuby breast-pump. (thanks Bunnyhop)
Still can't find any of my newborn baby clothes, tho at least the cot fittings have finally turned up.
    Anybody else becoming completely forgetful?

Some touching thoughts on the safe arrival of baby and disabilities. I do voluntary work with people with learning disabilities and it is most rewarding. I love it and them and their parents.

I don't want to scare monger but while we've been on some tricky topics recently wanted to point you towards the Count the Kicks campaign (countthekicks.org.uk). There are some useful points and links on there about how to monitor movement. Be warned that there are some tragic tales. I don't want to be alarmist but it's all about awareness.

Good news on the position debs. Mine was head down, back to the right on the past 2 visits but then I think he flipped round back to back the day after my last appointment as the kicks feel totally different now. I can feel small things moving about instead of one big hard lump (bum). Grrr. Time to start watching tv on all fours.

Labour vibes to anyone who needs them.

I carry post-it notes with me. And I actually use the calender and remind me functions on my phone. I stood in the carpark yestarday wondering why I couldn't find my car, before realising I'd bought the V6 in and was standing in front of it.

Yes- thanks Bunnyhop, I sent in details for Nuby last night.

    And now I want sausages.

We had our 20 week anomaly scan at the Foetal Medicine Unit as we had self referred there after being high risk in our bloods. Our midwife was doing nothing so I go on the telephone and spoke to the maternity co ordinator and she sorted it all for me.

The Down's doesn't phase me as much as the rarer syndromes such as Edward's or Patau's would. If we had been told we were high risk for those then we would have had the amnio.

I know what you mean that suddenly nothing else matters now except your family. Funny thing is that I work with people with learning disabilities and a lot have Down's, and I do my best every day but right now my heart isn't really in my job. It can't be when I have so much going on in my head and heart.

Yeah, our 24 week scan is an echocardiagram, and the 28 week is another ultrasound to look at baby's digestive system and for any more soft markers.

I agree the Consultants can be so harsh and matter of fact about it. On the day we had our blood results ours told us we were having an amnio that afternoon as it was the only time he could do it. I was totally taken aback, I was very distressed and crying say to him I couldn't have an amnio that day as I didn't even know if I wanted one, I hadn't even discussed it with my OH so couldn't possible agree to it! Anyway we decided against it as we felt it was too much to risk a miscarriage.

I think with the soft markers that we already have, I have already accepted that baby has Down's. In fact I will be more surprised if he/she doesn't have Down's. Family, friends and work colleagues all know the situation and have been incredibly supportive.

I'm so glad to hear a positive story of when the parents of followed their hearts and the specialists have been proven wrong. I know they can only do their job to the best of their ability with the information and technology they have, and I have total respect for them, but it still warms my heart when parent's instinct wins ;)

I guess the soft markers are all related to downs as opposed to the nuchal translucency scan which is linked to downs, edwards, pataus, Turners and the other rarer problems (mosaicism and translocations), fetal hydrops, CHD (Major Hear disorders), Body stalk syndrome and others. With Nuchal combined test we got 1:9 chance of downs and 1:13 chance of edwards with 1:13 chance of pataus, but no soft markers (present nasal bone etc).

The process we have been going through is to try and tick off items from the list and if we get to the end of the list with all items ticked off we can relax... but even then the doctors warn the heart scan will only detect 70% of all problems, so baby could pass all and still need surgery after birth so will need checking over.

I think we have eliminated most of the above list baring CHD (Heart disorders), but as we say if we pass 24 week cardio scan we still got to wait till birth and keep an eye on him to check him over.

I totally hear you about your heart not being on the job, it takes i couldnt concentrate at all as all i wanted to do was google and google every little bit of information about the NT scan and the probabilities, studies and data available. I knew more information than the doctors were telling me that way. They summarised the nuchal translucency to general disorders...

But there was a pattern that <4.5mm nuchals are more likely to be downs, 4.5 to 8mm are more likely to be edwards or pataus and ours being 8+mm was more likely to be Turners syndrome (absence of sex chromsome making one single X, always a girl but with an array of health issues).

We prepared ourselves for hearing it was Turners but were amased when he was declared a boy (obviously got XY ) nor was it any of the other disorders. And again when he passed his scans with flying colours.

I would say the worry that you go through is not something that I would wish on anyone, and its truly gut wrenching to go through the process of being helpless while your baby is potentially ill.

All we had to go on was to hope the Super High Nuchal was just randomess, or the baby got ill early on or something as opposed to disorders that werent plausible with life (Edwards, Pataus, Fetal Hydrops).

Oooh - his bum is under my left rib, legs and arms out right. Hopefully he won't move too much now.....

Might pump up my birthing ball later tonight to encourage him to engage now too....
