Alison and everyone else- I've given up with work and maternity clothing.
Thanks Alison, you did tell me a while ago about the Equality Act- I do apologise, I didn't disregard what you said, just my memory is awful at the moment. Will email a copy now before I forget. Many thanks Alison, you did give great info....
Plus, when nasty boss decided to start today, it wasn't when I was fully clued up anyway- I had the 20-wk scan today, and was trying to see why DH decided to see what the rota in work was like for this week, instead of booking it off six weeks ago! Long and short- he couldn't come in as someone else had booked today to bring her mother to hospital- we had argued a little- I fail to see how someone else asking to go along on a hospital app takes precedence when he'd asked six weeks ago- ahhhhh, never mind.
Not that it was terribly interesting in the end. Well, it was, but was very rushed.... Waited in reception for 50 minutes, to be told they'd decided to change my appointment this morning, as they'd overbooked. They phoned my house phone, but since I was in work, obviously didnt get the new time (earlier, and would have suited better!). My notes had said to contact my mobile first.
Then they said their system showed I wasn't due a scan, as I'd already had the 20 week- um, no. So they gave me a scan, the radiologist was fantastic- she pointed out the little eyes blinking, and a hand waving at us, and a small foot....
Back out to reception, was told to wait on consultant. 30 mins later, a midwife walked past me and asked what I was there for.... Finally saw consultant who took blood pressure, and rushed me through a chat- tbh, he didn't really achieve anything at all. I could have told him my blood pressure, as it doesn't change.
But aside from the problems getting seen- the unit seems very rushed and overbooked constantly- it was nice seeing Hitchhiker. And seeing the heartbeat- I'd gotten worried in the car that I would be told bad news. Will post the scan up later.0 -

Had lovely coffee and cake out this morning with my friend and her 18 month old. She is my only local friend with a baby and she is so good at giving advice but she works 4 days a week so is pretty busy. Have met a few more people through NCT and parentcraft classes so starting to feel less "alone" now.Leo James arrived 7 days late on 26th August 2011 by emergency CS :j Such a cheeky chappy now :T0 -

Right, i'm back from my appointment with the consultant anaethetist. It was actually quite useful. He said that at that hospital everyone over a certain BMI automatically gets referred to them, to assess for suitability and discuss risks. The reason they like to do it early is so that the patient doesnt have too many other things on their mind yet, and is more likely to be able to take everything in, and have time to think, research and make informed decisions. In terms why consultant, he wanted to check a few physical things to do with ability to perform general anaesthesia, ease of administering epidural. He checked my hands for veins, and asked how easy it is for people to take blood, so he could see how easy it would be to get drips etc in to me- high BMI can make it harder (i was ok). Got me to open my mouth super wide, also to tip my head back as far as poss, and also (separately) to push my lower jaw forward. Apparently these are all tests to see how easy it would be to intubate me if they had to do a general (again i was fine). Lastly was to stand me up, and get me to curl forward and over, so he could prod up my spine to see how much of my spinal bones he could feel, to see how easy they would find putting in an epidural. Mine is feelable, but not the easiest, so we discussed the fact that i should ask for one at an earlier stage of labour, rather than last minute as it would take a bit longer to get in. Also i'm slightly higher risk of them pushing it in too far during an epidural and going into the fluid, which can result in a very nasty headache.
Had a general chat about types of Epidural and spinal block, and i mentioned Reme, as well, so we talked about that. Its not available at the hospital yet, but the procedures for it are being passed at the mo, so its hit and miss whether it will be in for December when beanie is due. From what we discussed, IF i was to decide on epidural, i would go for the self administered version, which is available there, which apparently will still allow movement. Bit worried that they say they dont allow you to go walking to the loos if you need a pee! Rather not use a bed pan if possible!
I generally found it a very reassuring and helpful. Glad i heard and discussed it with consultant and not just the midwife, as i feel much more clued up on risks and issues, and a better position with rgards for asking/discussing with the midwife nearer the time. Guess thats why its the best rated maternity hospital in SE England!

Womble do they think the hole will close by itself? You say he so are you team blue too?! Whereabouts are you going in Majorca? Love it there - when i win the lotto I am buying a house there!
Ah no, I've called the baby he since the very beginning. We didn't find out the sex as we want a surprise, plus I wouldn't believe them anyway after 2 friends were told wrong.
We are going to Puerto Pollensa, I've never been before as we usually go to Portugal. I'll be 28 weeks when we go and the woman we are renting the apartment from just emailed to say that the keys will be left at a hotel which is a 20 minute walk away
The hole in the heart may or may not heal itself, fingers crossed it does.Puzzledbubbles wrote: »WW glad you got to see Eugine moving around lotsHope the hole in the heart resolves itself! Do yuo have another scan soon?
We have an appointment to see the heart specialist for an Echo in 4 weeks and another ultrasound in 8 weeks.Womble... Sorry to hear things didn't quite go in your favour.. butfor an active little squiggle. Holes in the heart often heal themselves before birth so hopefully your little one will be lucky in that respect! Are they offering any further support? Counselling for example just in case. Have you had any advice in terms of what to expect? 'Wait and see' isn't really good enough. And should, God forbid, you be that 1 in 7.. may I offer the advice of.. whatever help and support is offered TAKE IT.. from experience, don't think it will be forthcoming later on because it has to be fought tooth and nail for if you decline input in the early years.
Yeah, you're right PP, I work with people with LD and in my experience it is best to get as much support as soon as possible, the longer you leave it the more difficult it becomes.
I've read back and I'm very jealous of those who are on ML or are approaching MLI didn't realise that being pg would be so tiring! I was supposed to go out for a meal tonight for a girl who has just started her ML at work, but I got home and slept for 90 minutes, and woke up too late to rush around having a shower and getting ready.
