Hi ladies,
I posted a longer version several pages back, but no replies...
Just a quick reminder. I'm due to see the anaethestist today re: options during labour given my high bMI.
Any ideas what i should ask, discuss?
Thanks

I've never had to see one due to BMI before but have for other things, they are normally pretty thorough and know their stuff
They'll want to talk about epidurals etc and the drugs the hospital do/don't do and how your BMI may affect them (but I haven't got a clue how BMI would except maybe needing a higher dose)
Hope that is a bit more helpMum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession:o

In all my appointments with the consultant (fortnightly) we've never discussed this - I presumed it would be with the midwife nearer the time? i guess every area is different though!
Do you have any ideas what you would like? Maybe that's the place to start & see what's said/suggested as alternatives if that's not available.

I've never had to see the anaesthetist before in 2 previous pregnancies - just the consultant due to high BMI. This time I have to see the anaesthetist as I'm having an elective c-section. I really don't see the point. They managed to anaesthetise me for my emergency one!! Perhaps you could let me know the point of it Kira once you have been??!Thank you to everyone for sharing competitions!0

Good luck Apricot for due date day!
d_debski, you look fantastic.
Need a little help if anyone's bored and feels like googling- my work and I are having a slight argument at the moment- I've just been told that my black smart trousers aren't suitable for work, and they'd prefer I find navy. They've been told in return I have no intention of buying anything until I get reimbursed for the first couple of bits (total was £20-odd on Ebay, wasn't sure when I bought initially if they'd be providing uniform or just reimbursing.) Fairly sure they won't reimburse, but if they do, I should probably look for navy maternity trousers. Hen's teeth, from what I'm finding so far...... Any help would be appreciated!
Tempted to tell them at 23 weeks, if they want to change my uniform they can buy it themselves.....
Lirin your employer has to provide you with a uniform or give you the money in advance, for you to purchase it. Their only other option is to let you wear whatever you want. Don't even bother arguing with them, tell them to read the equality act.
Tried googling navy trousers, hens teeth is right. Dorothy perkins have a few on their website, cheapish too.First Baby born January 2007

Thanks ladies.
I've seen a consultant at about 13 weeks and she refered me to the anaesthetist. I'm fairly open to most ideas- i dont think its good to have a fixed view on what i'll want on the day. Ideally i think i'd prefer to be able to shift around somewhat and not be permanently tied to the bed with tubes and leads. I had heard some good things about a new thing, beginning with R, which you self administer when you need it to give you just enough, rather than a complete knock out. Quite like the sound of that. But know nowt about it!
Appointment is late this afternoon, so i'll certainly update you all on what it was all about when i've been!Married 13/03/10 #1 DD born 13/01/12!!

I've had 2 very different labours. DS1 was a long drawn out 36 hours but I didn't have any painkillers, just the gas and air - lovely stuff! DS2 was induced and that was horrible! With a long labour you build up your own tolerance and anaesthetic but with DS2 it was WHAM! straight away with very painful contractions. Ended up an emergency c-section as he wasn't coping very well and he was a big boy! I'd never be induced again! I'm looking forward to a nice calm c-section this time lol!Thank you to everyone for sharing competitions!0

I have never been offered anything other than G&A or an epidural.
I agree being induced does mean you feel like you've been all of a sudden hit by a train, but then none of the pessaries etc have ever done anything to me except induce BH's so I've always gone from 0-60 in ten seconds on the drip. They didn't ramp it up so much with my twins though, I was in labour a long time. With Squeak last year they must have turned it up really fast!
Can't compare it to a natural labour though, I honestly don't think my body knows how, I've had to be induced every time.
I expect though now I've said that I'll probably end up having this baby in the loo at Tesco in complete denial of being in labour:rotfl:
