One had a boy who turned out to be a girl, and the other had a girl who turned out to be a boy. One of my friends struggled to bond with her baby and grieved for the baby she thought she was going to have. It isn't 100% accurate so I don't see the point.
I fancied C'an Picafort, but couldn't find an apartment to rent in my price range :eek:0 -
Right, i'm back from my appointment with the consultant anaethetist. It was actually quite useful. He said that at that hospital everyone over a certain BMI automatically gets referred to them, to assess for suitability and discuss risks. The reason they like to do it early is so that the patient doesnt have too many other things on their mind yet, and is more likely to be able to take everything in, and have time to think, research and make informed decisions. In terms why consultant, he wanted to check a few physical things to do with ability to perform general anaesthesia, ease of administering epidural. He checked my hands for veins, and asked how easy it is for people to take blood, so he could see how easy it would be to get drips etc in to me- high BMI can make it harder (i was ok). Got me to open my mouth super wide, also to tip my head back as far as poss, and also (separately) to push my lower jaw forward. Apparently these are all tests to see how easy it would be to intubate me if they had to do a general (again i was fine). Lastly was to stand me up, and get me to curl forward and over, so he could prod up my spine to see how much of my spinal bones he could feel, to see how easy they would find putting in an epidural. Mine is feelable, but not the easiest, so we discussed the fact that i should ask for one at an earlier stage of labour, rather than last minute as it would take a bit longer to get in. Also i'm slightly higher risk of them pushing it in too far during an epidural and going into the fluid, which can result in a very nasty headache.
Had a general chat about types of Epidural and spinal block, and i mentioned Reme, as well, so we talked about that. Its not available at the hospital yet, but the procedures for it are being passed at the mo, so its hit and miss whether it will be in for December when beanie is due. From what we discussed, IF i was to decide on epidural, i would go for the self administered version, which is available there, which apparently will still allow movement. Bit worried that they say they dont allow you to go walking to the loos if you need a pee! Rather not use a bed pan if possible!
I generally found it a very reassuring and helpful. Glad i heard and discussed it with consultant and not just the midwife, as i feel much more clued up on risks and issues, and a better position with rgards for asking/discussing with the midwife nearer the time. Guess thats why its the best rated maternity hospital in SE England!
All in all,
I had this when I had my twins, and bad headache doesn't cover it!
You're fine laid down, but when you're halfway to sitting you feel like your head is going to explode, I had this for four days nearly until they did a blood patch (put some of my blood in to seal my spinal fluid in i think - which is just as traumatic as the first epidural) and if it does happen insist they check you thorougly for infections etc. You don't want dodgy blood in your spine!Mum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession:o

hi, not posted for a while on here, 30+ weeks omg its getting closer and so much to do, still on with the house seems never ending, and still need allsorts for bump, keep loooking for things reduced & its not happening.
Should have an easy week next week as my 3 oldest are away on a happy clapping trip with the church, cost a bloody fortune best part of £150 each and that was with the fundraising they did!
So hubby has took a few days off and is on about maybe going away overnight somewhere with the 2 youngest, will see how i gt on with the painting in the living room, started yesterday and rembered how much i blooming dislike starting it, but love it when its finished and looks all new & clean.
Then the plasterer is coming to do a bedroom in 2 weeks , and the builder is coming to repoint the back of the house about the same time,so hopefully by my due date will ahve everything done.0 -
Also congrats to all those who have had thier babies.

All this talk of getting scans wrong has me worried lol! We were told boy twice but they literally only had a very quick look. I'm taking blue stuff into hospital so if it turns into a girl she'll just have to wear blue! It would be my blimmin luck that the first and only pregnancy where I ask about gender they have it wrong!!Thank you to everyone for sharing competitions!0
