Just met my colleagues 3 week old baby girl - God, do I NOT know what to do with one of those! She looked fine, though I don't think I'm going to be able to leave the house before Christmas

hiya, just wondering how many nappies and things you ladies have stocked up on. am 18 weeks yesterday so got a little while to go yet but trying to get as organised as i can since OH wont be back till just before baby is due to be born, so the sooner i get things organised the better as far as im concerned.

    so far ive got:

27 packs of baby wipes (picked some up at tesco and then costco had an offer) not sure how long these will last or if i should get more
1 x size 1 pack of huggies newborn nappies (27 in a pack)
2 x size 2 pack of papmers new baby size 2 nappies (35 in a pack)
1 x box of size 2 pampers new baby (88 in a box)
1 x box of size 3 pampers baby dry (144 in a box)

ive also got a few bits for the baby like breast pump, steriliser and baby moniter but putting off getting the big bits till ive finished organising the house.

also MIL wants to give us OH's old cot, its about 28 years old and she also wants to give us the original mattress , now i know the mattress is a heck no, but would you use the cot or buy a new one?

    thanks :)

I'm the same :o Never had younger siblings, and don't do babies, I can deal with sturdy toddlers who like to throw things about and bite you. When I find myself holding a friends new born, my arm goes into a cramp and I panic about them bursting into tears at any moment. I'm going to be a brilliant parent

I think 27 packs is alot, your baby may not like specific wipes, or there little bum might be too sensitive. Everyone has told me don't bulk buy nappies because you don't know what brands you'l prefer, so I'd say what you have is about perfect.

If you do want to buy more Mothercare are doing 3for2 on loads of stuff at the moment and nappies are included.

    Morning Ladies,

I am on day 3 of being off work after the accident and am now thinking that i am going to go insane on maternity leave, i didnt get up until ten, have eaten, washed up, washing is on, phoned the garage and sorted out parking etc for the hire car (permit controlled area) have got to have a little tidy but everything else is done really and have got no where to be until 3 when i have the midwife for a check over after accident (although Elvis has been moving well today already)

I have even considered logging on to work quietly to see what is happening without me! Madness!

I have to find something to do tomorrow - will be occupied until mid morning with collecting hire care and then getting poorly car picked up but what am i going to do after that?????

I have no friends in the area (aside from one on the other side of town) and dont know what im going to do with myself ...

Oh, when Elvis arrives i will be fine (i hope) but in theory i will have 4 weeks at home with nothing to do once i get on maternity - aaaaaaaaaa

Oh and im carping myself about having a newborn - i mean, what am i meant to do with it.

Ok, am off to breath deeply and sort out paperwork for tomorrow - aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

    Puzzled :)

Puzzled, what do you normally do to relax yourself?

Im on week 3 of being signed off work and have pottered round the house doing bits. ok it helps that ive got lots to do due to having moved not that long ago, but i read a fair bit, watch telly, do cross stitch, have sorted through some boxes of unpacking, have sorted through clothes & bedding to be charity shopped, have had a friend round for dinner, have popped to library, am planning on doing some baking and when im further along, am planning on doing some batch cooking and freezing meals so that when bubs is here we can grab lasagne or whatever out the freezer that morning and bung it in the oven to cook that night.

there is also lots of passing time on facebook playing games and internet shopping to be done or even just internet window shopping.

hope everything goes well at the midwife later today.

Puzzled I was the same as you - really worried about how to fill my time when not working. All I know is I don't want to be sitting in front of the TV all day every day for 4 (potentially 6) weeks. BUT I am finishing work tomorrow and I cannot wait now. I am too tired to work (the drive is killing me apart from anything else). Already next week is filling up nicely with lunch with some of the girls from my NHS ante- natal group, meeting my other friend and her little girl for a coffee another day and treating myself to a well overdue pedicure as well. That's before I've even thought about things like washing baby clothes and making room in the kitchen cupboards for steriliser, bottles etc.
I also do scrapbooking and make cards so that helps to fill the time if I'm really bored. And I have been Sky+ing films to watch if times get really desperate.
    I can't wait. :j

Nightshirts - I've bought another one today, this one is from Asda, I ended up buying the 16-18 to have enough room in it and it doesn't look too big at all really, I'm wearing size 10 maternity clothes if that helps? (Nightshirt was £10, brushed cotton feel, and navy tartan type colour.)Previous one was from Tesco and was £8, size 14, a bit snug, a pink check design. Went into Matalan - none. Not one single one. All high necked nightgowns or PJ's. NAFF.
Just going to get one more now and that's me done. (I don't own a single nightie and I have some jarmies for staying at my mums but they are the long sleeve tshirt style ones, and don't look very helpful for BF.)

Puzzled, sounds crap, how long are you off work for?

I just ordered a couple of size 16/18 nighties from matalan website plus some cheap granny pants and a thin dressing gown (for home. Would I need it in hospital?) I got fed up of looking so just clicked 'buy' to be done with it. The nighties look like t-shirt material so should be stretchy. Will see whenthey arrive.

Not a great week at work. My boss asked if my due date was right as I look so big. Gee thanks! And the security guard asked how the twins were doing as I was waddling across the car park in the rain. Ha ha, my sides were splitting he was so witty! I don't think I'm huge. I'm only 5'3" so there's nowhere else for my bump to go but out front. I have a way to go yet too if I compare myself to my sister who is a similar height and frame - think beach ball bump rather than football bump.

Blah. I'm going to struggle and moan my way through the next 6/7 weeks.

Supermaiden, the guide on the formula tin is just that, a guide. Most newborns cant go 4 hours between feeds due to having such small tummies. Every 2 1/2 to 3 hours is about right on formula. The being sick is probably just him adjusting from being fed breastmilk, he may also get constipated or go the other way and have diarrhoea for a few days but it will soon settle. Bottlefed babies are more prone to colic so if he starts screaming for hours on end every evening for no known reason then invest in some infacol and always make sure the teat is tipped up enough to be full of milk so that no air bubbles get into his tummy.

Sorry if you know this already, it sounds like you have had a tough time and im just trying to help ;)

No I very much appreciate it, thankyou. I am having a bit of a tough time to be honest. Im struggling more than I thought I would. I guess its with the way the birth went and being rushed in for emergency c-section and Im just struggling with missing the start of baby's life. My parents are worried about me and told me I have to tell the health visitor tomorrow how Im feeling so I guess I will do that. I dont know if its PND or what but I dont want to be taking anything, I just need someone to talk to I think. It was all very traumatic for me so I do think that is the problem.
With regards to feeds Im just going to feed him when he wants it so I know hes not going hungry. I dont feel guilty (now) for giving him formula as we tried so hard with breastfeeding. Im still expressing but only been doing it once on a morning and thenbefore bed, getting quite sore at times but hoping to drop it off to once a day if I can. Its a shame as I get 150mls each 10 min express and Im now not sure what to do with it, maybe I will give him it during the day for some feeds.
Im wondering with the formula: it says 90mls water to 3 scoops powder, this is like 1 scoop per 30mls, since he is only drinking approx 60mls can I drop a scoop and only put 60mls water/2 scoops? Or is this not to be done? I feel like such a newbie where this is all concerned!
