I agree about the birth plans they're a waste of time to be honest, anything can happen during labour which needs things deciding there and then, I truely think the only birth plan is get your baby out as safely as possible.

Well we have managed to get baby to latch on using a nipple shield! Finally he is on and that was a great moment. Now my problem is he is wanting so much! This is what I have for last night:
4:00-4:35pm BF
5-6pm - BF still hungry so topped up with expressed milk
7pm - BF
9pm - parents watching him while I nap and gave him 20-30mls expressed milk
9:40pm - 10 BF
10:30-10:50 BF
1:25-2:10am BF & 10ml expressed
2:30-3am 10ml expressed
4:40-5:20 BF
5:40 still hungry so 20ml expressed
8:20 - wouldnt latch so 60ml expressed
and I was shattered! Does this seem right? I didnt know it would be like this:j0 -
Re: Birth plans, i havent done mine yet, but am adamant that if i go into labour naturally then i want an active labour. The consultant thinks that if i reach 3cm then i will be constantly monitored but i know i have the right to the birth that i want and that is exactly what i am going to have. I think the reason i ended up with a c-section last time (apart from DD being 10lb 10:eek:) was that after being induced i wasnt allowed to be mobile and therefore gravity couldnt help with getting her out. So even though im having a VBAC im going for an active labour and may try for a waterbirth, the midwives in Torbay are great and really support both home and water births. The consultants however just want to have you strapped up to a monitor which makes it easier for them, but not the mother.
Anyway, rant over, court hearing at 2pm, please cross your fingers for me that they will set a date for evil tenants to be evicted. Just hope i dont cry!!xxDue 26th July, team yellow0 -
Birth plans, haven't thought about yet.... don't think there's much to decide really, as plans will change. I'd like to be active also- and had thought of a water birth. Ward bed births look uncomfortable in comparison, though when the time comes I expect I'll have to settle for whatever's possible....
At this moment though, all I'm thinking of is sleeping- my hips and back hurt, my ankle feels a bit swollen and sore, and I'm knackered.... May have something to do with the rare burst of shopping energy I had at the weekend (I hate shopping. Really. I'll plaster a wall before buying a dress.), which is unusual, and we were out all day. Excuse to switch back to Ebay again now.....
Missy, good luck with evil tenants!0 -
i haven't done a birth plan. i kinda don't need to. but one thing i always do state is to please keep my dignity. i apprecaite all doc's and nurses have seen it all before ( i'm an ex nurse so when in nurse mode i know they don't take any notice) but at end of day i'm a person and i have feelings so just be thoughtful.
this all came about when after having my first section the midwife thought it was quite her place to just drop my night and yank my b o o b out and shove it in my dd mouth. i'm sorry but i don't just get my b o o b s outs what gave her the right to treat my body as a slab of meat. i was most put out. i really don't see my b o o b s as a feeding machine so it is all rather bizarre for me.
well pain is still there , i really struggled this morning to be able to walk seeing as i couldn't take ibro so i'm hoping i am able to get some strong pain killers at hospital later. i didn't realise how much ibro actually was taking the edge off the discomfort. Baby still pushign down but alot more comfortable than yesterday which is fab.0 -

Perfectly normal...
They usually feed every 1.5-2 hours for the first month or so.
Feeding more about 5pm is normal too as they are filling up before bed so you might hopefuly see a longer sleep then.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
supermaiden, congrats on getting baby latched on!!! Regards the constant feeding, is little one always drinking, or just comforting himself? One of the reasons i gave up bf (apart from the pain) was that my DD needed a dummy. She would be on me for 4 hours solid in the evenings, and my OH ended up letting her suck his little finger for a hour to give me some relief! All she wanted was a dummy, but horrible midwive told me not to (same stupid midwive also forbid me to use nipple shields). This time i have both already bought and dear help any MW who tells me not to use them :-)
You are doing brilliant. Gold star for effort!!
Fingers crossed missy!!
Birthplans: I said on mine that I will not be giving birth lying on my back and that epidurals, etc are to be the last resort as I will be staying mobile. Basically i just want to be left alone until the last minute. (fingers crossed)
I seem to be getting bossy and short-tempered, now that I've hit the 3rd trimester. I could end up being one of them awkward patients who don't do what they're told!First Baby born January 2007

For anyone wanting a birth plan template... there's one here. http://www.nhs.uk/planners/pregnancycareplanner/pages/birthplan.aspx?WT.mc_id=070906
I'd recommend not filling it in on the site because you'll be bloody pee'd off when it times out and you loose it all, either print it or hand write it using that as a guide.
MW said the best things to include are
Do you give concent for baby to have vit K injection?
Do you wish to have the placenta injection (sorry can't remember what's it's called)
Do you mind having trainee staff present?
Do you wish your birth partner to be present if you have to have a caesarean
Apparently the rest of it all goes with the flow, and you'll probably get asked the questions as you go along so no point going into lots of detail on the plan.
I've written a "plan" more for the benefit of hubby to be honest though, I thought along the lines of the decisions he might need to make / questions to answer if I'm unable to for any reason. It's a total of 8 sentances!Bump due 22nd September0
