  • Hi simon3000, Hope your feeling a bit better today. you said the other day you needed a debit or credit card so you could shop on the internet etc. Just thought i would let you know how i have done on that front. I cut up all my cards and as i am reclaiming my charges fromm cc companies they will at least be paid off. But i still needed some form of card. I looked on the net for pre paid credit cards. In other words they work exactly the same apart from the fact you pre load them with your own cash at the post office. so in effect you can use it in shops and on the net the same way but you have not borrowedthe money as you would for usual cc. Its worked for me. and i wont have any nasty surprises at the end of the month. and also no added interest rates and no late payment charges as the money is mine and not theirs. There are no credit checks as you are not borrowing money and you do need a bank account. There are a few banks doing it so look on the web for pre paid credit cards. Look through them all as some charge a monthly fee and some charge to load your money onto card. I pay 4.95 a month but loading is free. Its still far cheaper than the interest rates i was being charged. Yeah i know. you lot will be thinking. Does she stop for breath. er no. not when i am on a roll. hee hee :) xxxx

  • Is this card accepted by amazon and internationally or is it just for uk shops that sign up to the scheme? Something to look into as soon as I have a bank account nothing has come through the mail yet.

If you defaulted on your Hsbc credit card there will be charges. You can claim up to six years in the past on credit card/bank charges. If this card was closed 5 years ago then I would get onto Consumer action groups website straight away. Start the ball rolling to reclaim these charges as the longer you leave it the less you can claim back.

I don't know how you managed your account with them but if you were very naughty then there may be a load of dough there that will soon be unavailable to you.

I would do the same with all the other accounts (if any) that you have had in the last 6 years. The beginning of the process is simple you send a payment of ten pounds (recorded delivery) to each bank you have dealt with and tell them to send you a list of the charges they have made against your account in the last 6 years. When they send that information you know how much you can get back.

I know you have a lot on your plate at the moment mate but a few letters sent now to see what money of yours is lying round out there will probably pay dividends.

    Its worth a look!!

P.S. Your a young man with the rest of your life ahead of you and you have just learned your lesson 10 years earlier than I learned mine. Keep your head up and dont let the b"£!"*ds get you down!!

I think you may have been had.

Perhaps. But I'm happy to provide advice anyway :)
  • quote you may have been had. Yes perhaps. But i am 46 and believe me when i was going through all my problems my brain operated like a six year old. No matter what i did nothing seemed to go right. Now thanks to MSE i am now up to about 21 in my head. which is nice. think i might stay like that. And sometimes when you are in a very sticky situation you can tend to dig deeper into a big hole. i know i maybe naive in thinking everyone is genuine but on the off chance they are then they deserve the same help as everyone else. and if this guy is young then perhaps he has learned a very difficult lesson early. And also the advice given here helps others as well. So its not a complete waste of time giving advice. This is not meant to be a rant, so pleasedont anyone take offense. xxxxxxx

I don't recall my hsbc credit card account details but they should right? Can I force them to reopen the case?

It is a painful lesson to learn just after graduating when you think life gets better after all that education but better late than never as some of you have said.

Right here's my update I've been preliminarirly accepted by a number of banks i applied to and the next stage is to send them verification papers. I will open all the letters and list the banks here for you to advise me on the best one but i think its citi bank?

Barclays have stopped all my direct debits as expected and i need to pay my internet before all hell brakes loose and i can't speak to you guys.

If i send all my paperwork to cit bank for example asap there is nothing that barclays can do to influence citi bank right? if anyone with bad credit has sucessfully opened a full current account with them? debit card , cheque book but no over draft please tell what happens next?

Citi bank have sent a letter saying they want me to check the application a second time and send id docs does this mean i'm almost in?

I have recieved my garlik letter as well thank you folks , slowly but surely i feel i am getting somewhere.

Got an appointment with Citi Bank this afternoon all they want to see is a recent utility bill but i am sure they will want more so i will take the whole kaboodle.

Citi Bank refused to see me in person they prefer to do it all via post.
  • Where can I buy a pay as you go credit card to pay my bills over the phone rather than keep going to the post office? Also which is the best one?
