I went into hsbc yesterday and tried to open a current account and the woman told me that was the note on my credit file, or could that just be on their own records? Either way I would like them to do something about it don't you think? It was a long time ago

Yes, that was probably on your credit file, but it doesn't necessarily mean it was put on by HSBC.

Best to get a copy of your report first before taking any action.

It's free and will give you a snapshot of your credit file.

1) Will a snapshot be enough for me to help resolve my current problems?

2) How many times will the code be valid for?

1) It will show you your entire credit history upto the date that you register, which should be an eye opener.

2) The code is a one off thing just to verify your address, and confirm who you are.
