I am still waiting for a decsion from citi bank on my account they asked for my passport , bank statements , utility bills etc and its been over a month i called them today and they said to check in 3 days time. I haven't called barclays yet because i want to have my account in place first before i stir the hornet's nest. Its crazy  I have recieved a letter from barclays saying they will charge me £25 a day for everyday my account with them is overdrawn, which i will follwo up when i claim my charges. My credit reference had some false information and callcredit have said they will ammend it in 28 days. Its rough and soul destroying but i am making progress in solving my debt problems.

Thank you for checking on me i wondered why everyone had abandoned me and i don't want to start another thread until this fiasco is over as my trials may help someone else one day.
  • Hi hun. noone has abandoned you as such but you must keep on posting to keep us up to date etc. And it maybe noone could answer your question re your letter from bank. you really need to start moneyclaim as soon as re your bank charges. and if you can put some of your accounts or debts into dispute. this will give you some breathing space. as i have said before just open a basic account for time being. it worked for me.

Can I open a baisic account whilst i have an account opening in progress? I just thought it would cause problems having many banks checking on me all at one time.
  • Yes you can open a basic account while waiting for another one to be opened. As i have said in a previous post you can walk into an abbey witha passport and proof of address or driving licence and they will open an account there and for you. As it is a basic account there are no credit checks . they only check your name to make sure you are who you say you are. You can do direct debits and standing orders. You will get a cash card and you can have your wages paid into it. x

A basic account does not have visa/debt. A basic account usually just has a link cash card.

With regards to Barclays and their £25 a day charge, write a strongly worded letter informing them that this penalty charge is unlawful.

If citibank don't come up with the goods, you may find Norwich and Peterborough will open a current account with a link card plus a cheque book and internet access.

TBH a visa debit card is hard to come by with a less than perfect credit score, and you are unlikely to find anyone more forgiving than citibank at this moment in time.

I'm sorry, I don't apologise. That's just the way I am. Homer (Simpson)
  • I totally agree with you. I think though at this point in time a basic bank account would be more appropriate for simon. Less risk of him going deeper into debt. Sorry simon3000 not trying to say your not good at finances but i think it would do no harm to avoid credit cards for a while hun. Also i have told you about my pre paid mastercard. Have had mine a while and it has been a boon to me. At least i know the money on there is mine and not borrowed. and yes i know it costs to set it up but the fact i do not pay inerest and charges if i do not pay it off in time is a relief to me. You only have to apply on the net for it. there are no credit checks as you are not borrowing money. You could have it sorted by monday. bank and card. Although the card does take two weeks to come after ordering it. Hope this helps.
