Hypno you got your charges paid back quickly! Do they pay you a cheque, or into the account you have already?

Back into the account. I have to say that they did everything within my deadlines. I was quite impressed!

I have other charges with other institutions to claim, and this has given me the confidence to proceed although I don't expect them all to be this easy!

  • Thank you but my bank manager is going to call me on monday and threaten me that they want their £900 on demand. Should I offer to pay this back in installments over 9 months? Will Barclays debt collection team visit my home and sell my stuff to get back their £900?My bank manager is very aggressive , i recorded his last conversation with me.

Esoog thanks for the note on the bank charges but who can legally help me fight the bank because this is injustice.

The bank is totally within its rights to close your account and to refuse to offer you another. The other banks are also within their rights to do the same. Having a bank account is a responsibility and you abused that responsibility and are now facing the consequences.

You have had some good advice on this thread in that cashpoint savings accounts are not normally credit scored to the same level and you can have your wages paid in there. So, go and open one of those. Spend 6-12 months running that well and build up a bit of a balance and then retry for a current account.

Think of my response as the tough love response.

You arent in debt any more so you have nothing to worry about there. You have seen the consequences of minor debt abuse so that should help you not put yourself in that position again in the future. Stop worrying about something you cannot change and move on. Dont create yourself unnecessary stress when the options are so easy.

You owe the money so you need to repay it. You could ask them to agree installments or you could get it out the way. Debt collection is way down the line and as you have the money, there is no need for it to get that far unless you continue to refuse to pay.

The recording of the phone call is not admissible in a court of law as he wouldn't have known it was being recorded.

  • Barclays closed an account of mine that was £230 in credit because I hadn't put money in or taken it out for four months!
They sent me a letter, enclosing a cheque for the amount, and closed the account!
In your case I would be more concerned that Barclays have put some comment or other on your CRF. It might be a good idea to get a copy of yours and see what Barclays have done with that. If they have put something on there then it is worth pursuing Barclays to remove it.

    Good Luck!
I think they have put a note on my CRF, How do i word the letter asking for notes on my credit file to be removed? Do you have any templates?

Read the bit on bank charge reclaim on this website. It explains it all very clearly and will give you all the info that you need, templates etc. Otherwise go to the Consumer Action Group website. They are very helpful too.

Go on, do it now before you do ANYTHING ELSE!!!

  • I guess I have been stupid in expecting Barclays to realise that I have only been working for 3 months and my account usage has changed.I feel less helpless after speaking to you guys.Am I right in saying i have no ground to stand on?I was not informed that my overdraft had been reduced to £11 , should they not inform people what they are doing?I will try and get charges back from the day the account was opened.

Between now and Monday when you speak to Barclays, really think about all that has happened in the last few years. Accept your shortcomings and the lack of communication between you and the Bank, and admit this to the bank. They will far more prefer this than if you go in kicking and screaming at them. A little humble pie doesn't taste too bad!

Remember though that this is not the end of the world, whatever has happened. Just stay calm and look at everything logically without flying off the handle, even though things may seem bleak, they are not.

    Have a good weekend.

  • Should I write to them? Cause my bank manager doesn't give a rats !!! but he may respect the paper trail.I also think my identity has been compromised because my drivers liscence was used in a traffic insident when i was asleep so i will check my credit file and see if there is any application i did not make they can reverse.
  • Right honey. As some of the previous messages have said. take a deep breath and calm down. i have been in the same situation. i have opened an account with the abbey. was so easy to do. you can do direct debits standing orders, and they gve you a cash card to use in there machines. You will get your account number there and then so you can give that to your employers so you can get your wages paid into the account. Also, my bank manager there said she would revue my account every six months. And in time if i run the account right she will upgrade it to a full current accont. As for reclaiming bank charges go to the reclaim bank charges on this website. There is so much help and support from tons of people. you can get through this. And trust me your situation is nowhere near as some i have heard. Although all our situations are dreadful to us personally no matter how big or small the debt is. you have lots of ground to stand on. but you must read and take in the advice that the guys on here are giving you. Long winded message i know. But we are all here to help each other. Good luck
