Thanks guys.
I can afford the more expensive ones so i wont be making myself skint if i decide to buy them. I reckon the Prestige ones will do the job. Just looked on @m@zon and they are £19 for 3 different ones, which i think will be a good price as long as they last!0 -
Most of mine are from Tescos. I get most use from the large grill pan that came with the oven, it has sides and is quite sturdy and about the size of the oven. I regularly remove the "grill" to use it as an oven dish. Great for chips and roasts.
Then I have one similar to this (I don't think it's professional) but it was from Tesco http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.201-6035.aspx that I use A LOT. It's never warped though it is a little scratched. It's great for tray bakes like flapjacks, brownies and rocky road too.
I have a couple of the dead cheap ones that are good for ready meals, garlic bread etc. As I don't use them for anything that would scratch them, or cause a problem if it warps a little in the oven so they last a long time for me.
From our wedding gift list we were bought http://www.johnlewis.com/230420813/Product.aspx Which is superb. It's my intention to upgrade all of our oven-ware to Mermaid which will take a few years as I'm in no hurry. It's really good for roasts etc. Next on my list is a Mermaid cookie sheet (flat and wide with no sides).
I dishwasher all of our baking trays and wouldn't scratch at them with metal scourers.0 -
I don't tend to buy the expensive ones, as they don't get used that much in our house.
Have you tried Wilkinsons?Striving to clear the mortgage before it finishes in Dec 2028 - amount currently owed - £26,322.670 -
hi
not sure how many charity shops in your area, or what they stock, but my baking sheets are the stainless steel trays that used to come with stainless steel teasets (teapot, milkjug, sugarbowl, hot water jug). I have about six which i have picked up for about a £1 each, and will continue to buy more as i find them. They do not rust or distort (i only buy the steel ones and not with wooden handles on the side), and i feel except for the size being smaller they are as good as any expensive flat baking sheet. In my oven i can get two trays in side by side, so can fit in four at once on the two shelves..

poppy-glos, i had never thought of using those!
Would prefer to stick to the traditional baking trays though, but good idea!0 -
Good trays are worth buying because it seems they can last forever. I like vitreous enamel trays because food doesn't stick, the finish never peals off and if the metal is a reasonable thickness they won't warp either. Mine are ancient and still in excellent condition despite being used easily thousands of times - but I do take care to never scrape them with metal things. If something on the tray needs cutting I put it on the chopping board first. Otherwise though the surface is tough, enamel is basically glass and I scour them with the green pad every time I wash them.0

Try TK Maxx, I have bought loads of trays from there, high end brands like prestige ans stellar with nice cheap prices. They also have loads of Le Crueset which I have been successfully resisting as it is usually in the more horrific colours and you can never get a full set, just bits and bobs, but I'm tempted sometimes.0
