Enamel - lasts longer and easier to clean properly.

I have one of each and they're equally good, I find, but it does depend on the quality of the tin itself. I think a 'cheap' enamel tin would last longer than a cheap non-stick, but a good, heavy non-stick is just as good as enamel. My only basis for which I use is which I reach in the cupboard first!

    Hi vixen,

Personally I'm not a great fan of non stick roasting dishes as in my experience they all lose the non stick coating eventually, so out of the choices you've given, I'd go with enamel.

This thread has some recommendations that may help:

Enamel, but given the choice of any I'd go for a Le Creuset-style pan. Actually I'd go for Le Creuset but they are costly.

I have some enamel ones in various sizes that I have had for years and years, and to be honest, they are nearly as good as new. If they get burnt on goo, just soak them overnight in very hot water with about a tablespoon of washing powder (the clothes sort). They will be easy to wash out the next morning - though do of course rinse well.

Mine are glass and uncoated stainless steel. I don't find that either stick or fail to come clean so long as they're well oiled.

Ok, so I have completely wrecked my cheapo baking trays. Can any one reccommend some decent but not expensive baking trays? Also, how do I keep them in good nick??

    Hi there,

We bought ours from John Lewis. they're not cheap, but last very well. I have found that it is worth spending the money, as they last for years and gove better results. Same with cake tins etc. We were lucky that we put some on our wedding list a couple of years ago, and so were able to 'upgrade' that way. They are stil going strong and as new.

I've also heard that 'Mermaid' is a good brand.

In terms of looking after them, use non-stick scourers and wash by hand. Don't use wire sponges. You can soak a tin with boiling water and a squirt of washing up liquid of something is stuck on fast (but this happens much less if you buy decent tins!).

If you're near a home bargains, i got some brill pyrex baking trays from there about six weeks ago. Never seen pyrex baking trays before but these are great, and of course you can scrub 'em to your hearts content :)

    Cheap too, £1.99 each :)
