Waiting for a proposal - how did you stay sane?!

I hope you all understand how honoured you are as you are hearing this first....before even my family....
I guess technically I am engaged :rotfl:. I am sitting at the table with greasy hair, in my pjs, eating beans on toast. I just said that it was hard for me to bring it up but I asked how he felt about getting married in 2013 but told him to be honest and he smiled and nodded, I said that I thought going to the Maldives could be our honeymoon (especially as I have an affinity for the number 13), he said 'go on then', hardly the epitome of romantic but he was smiling and very touchy feely. Told him he had to be honest about it and whether he was happy with it and he said he was.
Told him I have saved him the job of proposing but he says he still wants to ask me properly so will I will tell my family and closest of friends that it will be happening I will save the formal announcement.
I don't know why I had to do it right now, it just seemed the right time. I think he was a little shocked but I feel we have something to work to and that's what was important to me, I don't care about a romantic spontaneous proposal or a big flashy wedding, I just want me and him and out closest friends and family and I needed to know he felt the same way.
Suppose I better think about the how the hell I am going to save for it, likely to be March 2013, currently thinking 1/3/13 as it's my favourite (and lucky number) but we will have to think about it more in the new year.
Happy new year all xxx

CONGRATULATIONS JTR!! You must be sooo happy
(Your 'discussion' was exactly how our engagement started
so I totally understand).

oOmg OMG OMG I can barely type!!!!!!!!
CONGRATULATIONS
I think many an engagement has happened that way.
All the very very best for the New Year, started as an engaged couple :jForty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0 -
Thanks ladies! It feels a bit surreal because we had the conversation then i went and had a bath and he went back to playing the Xbox :rotfl:
I'd love to announce it and start planning but OH seemed adamant he wanted to ask me properly so ill have to be a little patient, hopefully he won't make me wait for too long! Obviously I've already got some ideas and probably won't be making any formal arrangements until we get back from Kenya in April. My money is totally tied up until June with having the Maldives as well so we are going to have to budget well.
I still would have loved for him to do it off his own back but my sanity was more important and I feel like I've regained some control too.

I don't care about a romantic spontaneous proposal or a big flashy wedding, I just want me and him and out closest friends and family and I needed to know he felt the same way.
And my proposal was a 'romantic' either, but it was everything I truely needed - seeing that smile on his face as he said it was what he wanted. And he beamed the entire way through our wedding too, except for the bit where he cried:D ; you'd never have known how ling I'd had to wait for him to be ready for that day:rotfl:
That has totally made my new years eve that has!:T:T:DI try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once0 -
Aggggghhhhhh  I'm going to be the only one left on this thread soon!!!!! :rotfl:
Seriously though, that is FAB news - so happy for you - you can totally set your mind at rest....and spend the whole of 2012 making those plans!!! YAY :j:j:T:T
Great way to start 2012 - will you go out and choose a ring together or are you not too bothered about that?
Well done for bringing up the subject - I'd have to get a drink down me first!! Might have to take a leaf out of your book sometime in the New Year!!
Hope everyone has a great New Years Eve tonight - we are not doing anything special - no friends involved now, just us but I'm not expecting anything.... just going to get a takeaway, open a bottle of bubble and probably fall asleep before midnight!!
Perhaps there'll be others coming on this thread tomorrow with some good news! Fingers crossed!! :rotfl:0 -
