After just over 5 years my OH proposed to me in New York last week!! :)

We discussed getting married before and both knew we wanted a 'no fuss, few guests, done abroad' type of thing, so we're saving to do it in New York in 2013, then do a 2 week roadtrip straight after in the USA. Excited!

Amazing....lets hope I can follow suit soon!!! :j

  • I have a confession - I am bizarre and proud!

I'm not currently in the tearing my hair out stage, although I certainly have my GF-zilla moments. I've been with my OH 3 years in May and been living together for 18 months. When he's drunk he says he does want to marry me "one day", and a few months ago he let slip that he was thinking about next year. So this stopped my worries to an extent. Although he's likely to forget, so no guarantees. Sometimes I wonder how he remembers to put one foot in front of the other! :p

My issue is I am still not sane... I have already started planning the wedding in my head, and even have a budget spreadsheet - which I call the "hypothetical" budget! I've started reading these forums for ideas, and have got as far as bookmarking a few websites for photographers, videographers, venues, make-up people etc.

I justify that by putting my MSE hat on and needing to budget to know how much to save. I have £5k in the wedding fund already - and hoping to add another £2k before I'd need it. I really want the sparkly dancefloor though...

It is all lighthearted though (cue psycho music) and deep down I just want to spend my life with my ditzy frank spencer of an OH!

Phew - that feels good to get off my chest! :rotfl:

P.S. My best friend is getting married next year (I think) in Gran Canaria and I'm MOH. I'm so excited, but she's not that interested in wedding-y stuff and so I'm not getting to do much to help. As she's a Dr, I can't even plan the hen weekend in advance as she never knows what shifts she's working til last min!

We like having more bizarre people! Welcome on board, we hope your stay is a short one ;). There is certainly no harm in doing some research, after all you don't book a holiday without finding out all the nitty gritty do you? :rotfl:

    Well ladies......

I thought as it's almost Christmas I would do a bit of a speech and tell you all how grateful I am that you have all been so supportive and willing to share your stories and listen to me, and everyone else, vent when we have needed to. I know that this thread has caused some controversy but I never imagined when I started it that it would run for so long or there would be so many people who identified with the way I was feeling. It's really hard to talk about these feelings with someone who hasn't been through the same thing and I can see why some people think it's an easy problem to solve, but we all know that's not the case :(.

I really hope that you all have a lovely Christmas & New Year and I have fingers, legs and toes crossed that we have some good news over the next week or so. And for those who are still waiting on the 1st of January, I look forward to talking to you more in 2012

  • Just wanted to pop by my little guilty pleasure (reading all your wonderful rants/wishes/etc) and wish you lots of luck over the festive period. Even if there are no proposals, enjoy the lovely Christmas cheer and lots of wine!

Look forward to much more like minded posts in 2012 :);)
