HBS - I always read your updates with hope, I still have my fingers crossed.

If its a waste of money (to him) could you pay for it? Or at least the wills and POA, if anything does happen you would have no say or legal rights and at least if you paid (for the marriage or wills/POA) you would have that.
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....
  • Aw HBS and COC :( Sorry to hear that!

I'm in the same boat with OH, but I've accepted that's how it is. Was never sure if marriage was at the bottom of his list or not on it at all. I'm figuring more the latter.
Marriage was never top of my list right enough. If he asked I wouldn't hesitate, don't get me wrong, but I've never had a craving for it if that makes sense!!

I will see how things go and maybe suggest this :)

  • Me again.

We had a bit of a chat (I had a bit of Dutch courage) and he admitted he's not the marrying sort.

So we are going to make wills at some point, it looks like.

I'm pretty damn sad about this. I still love him, and I'd rather have him than a wedding, but...meh.

Thank you for being so lovely, everyone.

Awww that's a shame HBS. :( Everytime I see your name pop up on his thread I'm hoping that you have some good news to share with us.

My DH was exactly the same, he couldn't see the point in getting married etc etc etc, and that stems from too many divorces in his family. His parents got divorced and so did his two brothers.

Like you, I sat him down and told him how I felt, and luckily for me it worked, he understood my reasons. Did you tell him fully how you feel and how important it is to you?

Surprisingly, he even really got into the wedding planning and even shed a tear when saying the vows (I didn't, he called me a 'hard faced biatch!', jokingly of course! :rotfl: ) basically, he's a big softy, but absolutely hated the idea of being on show and the idea of a big fuss, as did I. Maybe his is what puts your OH off the idea? Or is he really just against the idea of marriage in general?

  • Awww thank you, and to 74jax and HaW and all the others who keep an eye out for me on here!

I think he's been so badly hurt in the past by a girl he might have married, that he's got a bit of a barrier built up. Maybe I can talk to him again another time :)

I also get the feeling he thinks it's a bit of a waste of money...but I don't want platinum and diamond rings or a Vera Wang dress...just a nice, simple, quiet ceremony with a party for our friends and family afterwards.

He probably does have a barrier up, hopefully you'll be able to break it down....here's a sledgehammer! :rotfl:

Our wedding cost under a thousand pounds. Personally (and this is just my personal opinion), I'd hate to spend thousands on one day, I much prefered having the money to spend on a honeymoon! :D
  • Awww HBS - I do log on from time to time and wonder how you're getting on. I can't really offer any advice or anything constructive so I will send you virtual hugs instead (((((hug))))
Everyone has a dark side... apparently mine is called Harold?!?
  • Ahhh thankyou :) you do all look after me on here!

See, we still do keep checking back on here - we can't stay away :rotfl: I am pleased you're looking at wills, I know it's not exactly what you wanted - if at all - but sensibly it's a good way forward.

I still live in hope for you though....
