  • This is all so familiar, I've been with my OH for 2 yrs 8 months and it's not a case of if but when. But oh, when?!? I know he's not waiting to afford a ring, we've been offered my mother's; my late father made it for her and she's given it to us. Well, it's still at her house, when he's ready he has to go ask her. Not to mention it needs re-sizing.

We talked about it on holiday (he even said he wanted marry next year and was budgeting over dinner on the one night!) I thought he might do it on holiday, but no. We had a good friend's wedding last weekend, so I think over this period he didn't want to steal any thunder. But it is my birthday in 2 weeks...I'm going to try and not get my hopes up too much but it will feel like a bit of a blow if he doesn't. Like many of you all I get is "I can't wait to marry you", "I can't wait till you're my wife". He knows I'm a sure thing, it's going to be a yes from me, and that I'm not fussed however he does it, all he needs to do is ask.

And that's another thing, he's made it clear that he wants to be doing the asking, so I won't be.

*btw, if you're reading this hun, please do not tell me, I'll be beyond mortified :rotfl:*

Think you guys should make a pact not to let them get away with the 'can't wait til you're my wife' talk!

I believe the correct response is 'well you don't know whether I'm going to say yes UNTIL YOU ASK' :rotfl:

I saw the one on the X factor the other night. As lovely as it was, I'd love to have seen the guys face if she did say no!

I think to do it in such a public place he'd have to be confident she'd say yes.

  • I proposed to my OH about six months ago ( which I think came as a suprise to both of us as I've always said I never want to get married) and he said yes. Although the wedding plans are currently on hold as I'm have health problems.

I'd given up hope on him popping that question, and even when he booked and paid for us to go to Prague I figured we'd had a stressful year last year, so nearly keeled over when he got down on one knee next to the river at night there! (even funnier were the Japanese tourists on segways, v surreal! especially with their cameras flashing away!!!!!!). My Best Friend got married in April and was always asking her OH when he was gonna propose, then when she'd given up asking and life was life, and they were settled, bla de bla he proposed. I figure it's the only thing they have control of! We'll make decisions for them the rest of their lives! lol. I think they need their time, it's prob a bigger step for them than us to actually do the asking than us. That and they want to do it when your least expecting!

  • In light of my recent post, it feels very strange to be saying it, but I'm engaged!!! :D:D:D

OH had day off from work yesterday as he'd been on a lads weekend away...he said he was ill so couldn't pick me up as he'd said, but booked a taxi by way of apology. When I got through the door he'd put candles on the dining room table, along with roses and champagne and my favourite band on cd in the background. It took my eyes a second to adjust (it was dark) and when I saw the glasses and the fact he had his suit on I was :eek::eek:

He got down on one knee and said "I love you, will you please be my wife?" I screeched yes haha, went through disbelief, shock, tears, you name it. After a bit I we called people (although pretty much all my friends knew, they accosted him a week ago when we were out and I was in the ladies, and he couldn't think of an excuse so he told them the truth). Then I had to haul a$$ to the shower as he'd booked a restaurant for the evening. He got my mom to sort out the ring adjustments so I wouldn't suspect anything, and it fits perfectly and looks amazing. It was definitely a surprise, and that's what he was aiming for :)

jemb, it is true they want to do it when you're least expecting haha!

  • Hi, I'm new to this thread (and these boards in general) but I just wanted to say that you shouldn't wait for him to ask you - if you love him, ask him! I asked my boy to marry me last month and he said yes :) We had just been for a (freezing cold!) swim in a waterfall in the Lake District - it was a gorgeous sunny day and not another person in sight - it was so perfect and I've known since we got together that he was 'the one' so it was a no-brainer!

I think waiting for him to propose should have gone out with the idea of a dowry and promising to 'obey' ;)
