my mum used to tell me I want doesn't get and in this case you all want to be proposed too one poster even opened a christmas present to find out if he was going to propose fgs ... why can you not just wait for the moment . Proposals are meant to be a suprise not a preplanned event by the person getting proposed too ..

    I have some questions...

    1) Are you male?

    2) Do you not think waiting 7/10/14 years is excessive?

    3) Why is it so wrong to want? Have you never wanted a car/holiday?

    That is all.

  • I think I speak for most if not all of the ladies here who are waiting when I say that it's not the wanting - I think very few of us have said to our OHs "I want to get married", and certainly not in any kind of spoilt child way - but that we'd just like a hint that it's what our partners want as well. The moment itself can still be a total surprise depending on how and when it's done even if you know that the other person would like it to happen; the issue is the not knowing if they do.

Yep exactly! Most of us have had our partners tell us they do want to get married so it is more a case of 'why the wait'!

  • SO glad someone started this thread.

My OH is tormenting me and I think he gets some sick pleasure out of it! Haha.

We have been together 3 and a half years and we have discussed marriage loads, he constantly says “cant wait until your my wife” etcetc but hasn’t actually proposed! He then said he would prefer if I picked out the ring so it would be something I liked, so I went through the agony of finding the perfect ring, absolutely loved it, he got all the details and said “leave it with me” nudgenudgewinkwink.

3 months later I’m still waiting and I know he hasn’t got the ring because I know he hasn’t for many reasons, and he keeps saying “I want it to be a lovely surprise, I only plan on doing it once and I want it to be perfect” which is LOVELY don’t get me wrong but I am SO impatient and I feel like he’s dangling a big fat carrot (or carat! Hahahahahahahaa). And he knows I want to get married next year so he’s cutting it a bit fine, I have a lot of planning to do yknow!! Anyway I’ve tried to shut up about it but it’s so frustrating I could scream! :) glad I’m not the only one!

Tempting but I want him to make the effort :o. It's annoying because I know he would say yes but I am going to be a stubborn mare!

It's funny how none of us are engaged and yet we all managed to find this thread which is hidden away here on the Weddings board! :rotfl:

Well, I first came here because I was thinking of proposing to my OH and went on the Engagement Rings thread to ask about rings for men. What are your excuses for being on here? :p

I wouldn't propose until I'd been with a girlfriend for at least 5 years, people seem to want it far too soon in a relationship. Whats the rush?

I've almost been with my girlfriend for 5 years now and due to circumstances wont be proposing for at least 3 years. She isn't fussed at all as it really doesn't change the relationship at all.
