aww at double mummy!
We got my ring in December 2010, It was made for me, so i knew what it looked like, so my OH wanted to suprise me, we went for a long weekend in Clacton and on 18.07.11 and we had just packed the car and left the beach ready to go home, then he asked me to go over to the cliff edge, and over looking the peir and sea at Clacton he said i know you have been waiting along time for this, opened the box and said will you marry me and i said yes, then he said now you can have the same name as us (Son & OH) we kissed and said i love you and drove home, lol. oh yeah he didnt get down on one kneee, and i said get down on one knee then and he said no lol. but it was very very sweet!!!
Close friends and family had known and we planned whilst i waited to get the ring, so when we announced it, then afew days later when people began to ask and found that it was nearly all sorted already they was abit like you have only been engadged 5 mins, to which i just said well only close friends and family knew that its been going on 7 months! lol. xxxxAccept that some days you're the pigeon, and some days you're the statue. Only fools are statues every day. (15.09.12 cant wait!)0 -
After we got married, hubby 'fessed up that I had ruined his proposal plan.
We got to that point where we'd been living together, had talked about marriage, kids, the future repeatedly, and I was expecting it to happen. We had a holiday booked to the Lake District (we go there regularly) and were planning to climb Helvellyn (my first time doing it). The girls at work all said he'd propose at the top and I made the EPIC mistake of telling hubby this.
Nothing happened on holiday; I had been all excited that day lol and felt a bit disappointed.
Three months later (during which time I had felt a bit frustrated that it wasn't happening, thinking 'are we really going anywhere?') we were out for a walk at a local cliff-top nature reserve. We got round to the subject of marriage again and he, in a slightly exasperated tone, just said "Will you then?". I said "Will I what?" (knowing what he meant) and he said "marry me?". I said yes and there was lots of grinning and hugging. It was an amazing moment.
We went out and bought my ring together that afternoon - trying on rings together was so special.
He told me much later that of course he had been planning to do it in the Lake District but he didn't want to after we'd guessed his plan.He then kept trying to think of a new way to do it but then felt like nothing he could think of would be special enough. Poor guy.

My H2B proposed after we had been together just under 3 year. Once we'd passed the 2 yr point I did badger him a bit, even to the point of pointing out what sort of ring I would like!:o
I gave up after 6 months as I thought if I badgered him too much he would either never do it or be put off and leave me.
He totally surprised me proposing last Christmas day! I had expected him to propose on top of a mountain on one of our snowboarding holidays. He did admit this was his plan but his Mother pursauded him to do it Christmas day so they could all share it!:(
Not as bad as it sounds he did it at our home just him, his 7 yr old son :jand me then we went to his mothers. Only things was I was really ill with flu and can't really remember much of it!Turning our clutter to top up our house deposit: £3000/£303.05 we're on our way!0 -
I've been with my OH for nearly 4 years and like the rest of you, I started getting itchy feet and wanted to get engaged.
I was already looking at venues (then closing down the laptop when he was near). We went away to Paris for our birthdays (2 days apart) and nothing!! I was so disappointed.
Anyway, on a dinner party when I was cooking a 4 course sit down meal for all his old uni friends, there was a LOT of wine flowing and after when everyone left, he said what an amazing job I did (he doesn't cook, so amazing in his eyes is beans on toast!), anyway I then said that could I have something for being amazing? and he asked if I wanted to get married. I said no, I just wanted an engagement. And he said okay.
The next morning, I was then asked do I still want to be Mrs ******? I said yes and that was that.
Two months later I had a gorgeous ring made in Hatton Garden.
I still insist to this day that it was a marriage proposal and that I want to do it properly. (Apparently, I beat him to it by a week!)
We're now planning our wedding for 31st December 2012. :j0 -
Hello! Just got engaged in June and I thought I would give my input.
I've been with my other half for 7 years! Always talked about how we would like to get married and there has been lots of times hold etc when me and other people thought it would happen but nothing!
I was starting to get frustrated then the OH got a promotion and promised things could get moving. The ring I wore on that finger was even taken to the shop to get sized but I thought it would be ages before I got a ring.
Tried to stop thinking about it then the week before out 7 year anniversary and our hol this year I was called downstairs to watch this:

Turned around and he was on one knee holding a kinder egg! I sobbed and was then whisked off to my favourite restaurant where some of our friends were waiting with champagne!
I was getting frustrated but honestly it was worth the waitit will happen when you least expect it!!

I had a bit of a wait too, OH and I met in 2004, saved hard for our house deposit, building careers, and finally bought our house in 2009. So everyone starts hinting about marriage proposal next, we went to Paris for a long weekend, no proposal, I got upset and confessed to OH that I thought he would've proposed, he replies it was too obvious to do it there but he will do it at some point, cue every time we went out for a nice dinner, somewhere romantic, I'd build my hopes up, only to be disappointed, so few months later, I booked a romantic weekend to London, thinking this is it now.
We have a lovely time, head out to dinner, come back, no proposal I'm in a serious mood, OH gets down on one knee says 'Will you marry me?' I stupidly panic and say 'don't be silly, I'm not sure if I'm ready'. We come home have a talk about it, decide I am ready and was ready all along just me being silly.
NYE 2009 (my birthday) OH proposes again and this time I def answer 'YES', but we decide to go to B'ham Jewellery Qtr to get engagement ring together as OH's dad used to work there, but the snow comes, eventually we get the ring 5 weeks later, but it has to be posted, it arrives whist OH is away abroad for a week, so I secretly open it, check it's ok and put it away safely.
OH comes back it's Feb 14th, I'm led in bed, he produces the ring and says 'Do you still want to marry me?' Cue me Screaming yes, with tears running down my face, and reply 'Yeah I 'spose so'
And we've just got married 6 weeks ago and have a 7month old dd
It will happen for you OP, I have no advice but just wanted to tell you my story:j baby lauren born 06/01/2011 + got married 02/07/2011 :j0 -
I have been with my OH for 7 years sept, no proposal. Lived together nearly 4 years; I would love it if he proposed, but I ain't gonna loose any sleep over it if he doesn't.
His friend was bullied into it and 6 months down the line, they had split up. Don't issue ultimatums - it could backfire.
Just chill out, go with the flow and if it's going to happen it will2022 Target - Reduce new mortgage balance after house move - Part 1 (Ported) Starting balance £39,982.12 currently £37,242.19 Part 2 Starting Balance £101,997.88 currently £96,197.38 (as at 19/04/2022)0 -
My sympathies to you OP, I can tell I'm going to be the same. I've been with my OH for 6 months and am already fantasising about a proposal! The sensible part of my brain is trying to rein me in though because I have a lot still to experience before I tie the knot lol.Thank you competition posters!
