Waiting for a proposal - how did you stay sane?!

I'd definitely still like to get married, but I feel like at the moment it's less important than it was when I first joined this thread, if that makes sense? Not to trivialise it for others, but it's dropped down the list of priorities for me right now and I feel happy to wait a bit longer. It would still be lovely to get a proposal in the next few months though..."A mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone, if it is to keep its edge." - Tyrion LannisterMarried my best friend 1st November 2014Loose = the opposite of tight (eg "These trousers feel a little loose")Lose = the opposite of find/gain (eg "I'm going to lose weight this year")0

I still want to get married and I would love a proposal tomorrow (or the next day) but I know it will be years before it happens. Literally years. Unless someone else randomly asks me!
I still want to get excited for everyone else though! Weeeeee! XxxLife is too short not to love what you do.0 -
Men can be funny creatures can't they?
My other half and I got together nearly ten years ago and we got engaged after a couple of years and that was it. Nada!!
Nothing - for a few years even when we spoke about it we just never seemed to get anywhere and if anything I thought we never would.
So I just did'nt bother talking about it and life went on.
Life has been on occasion quite dramatic and traumatic since we got together - we have both lost family members and last year OH ended up in hospital with Septicaemia and cellulitis and had I not forced him into seeing a doctor he would not be here now. He was off work for nearly three months and I think he had plenty of time to think -probably too much time.
But even so - life drifted on - until a couple of months ago - we were at home and he suddenly brought up getting married - and that was that!
We are getting married in August - no messing about. Life is a little manic - there is loads to sort. But it is second time around for both of us and it is more important to us to do the legal bit with both our families around us and have a relaxed and informal celebration with everyone.
We couldnt be more committed to each other anyway but from thinking we would never get married it has completely changed and everything has suddenly gained momentum.
So for all of you who are still waiting and dreaming - life has a way of turning up unexpected surprises. Some not so good and some better than anticipated. But dont put your life on hold waiting - live life as it should be - in the present - here and now and let the future take care of itself.
SwampyExpect the worst, hope for the best, and take what comes!!:o0 -
Is there anyone else left on this thread still wanting to get married... feel a bit lonely now you're all changing your minds (or had it changed
)
I'm still here lurking. I felt too guilty chiming in when everyone was having such a tough time. We went through a really rocky patch the other week - when we nearly didn't make it through. But now I'm back on the waiting game....
Still holding out for our anniversary holiday in May. But he's not had as much work as he wanted, so I'm worried he thinks he can't afford to do it right now. Hope is fading a bit.0 -
I AM!!!!!!! 100%
He had my Mum on his 'called' list on his phone yesterday (I wasn't snooping-I had my head on his shoulder when he went to text one of his mates and I saw it.) Why would he be calling my MUM??!! We aren't that kind of couple where he would call my Mum or Dad for a bit of a chat!! Anyway it's nearly the dreaded April. I have no idea what's going to happen.Since starting again after beanie: June 2016: Child development DVDs, Massive Attack tickets. July: Aberystwyth trip, hotmilk nightie. Ooh how mysterious eleanor! Why would he call your mum though if he was gonna propose? Maybe it's some elaborate plan that she needs to be in on?0

I don't know. It could be nothing. It could be a plan. He has done this sort of thing before (once he took me to a festival and emailed my boss without me knowing so I could get the annual leave). The only thing I can think of is that he doesn't have my Dad's number so he could be organising speaking to him through my Mum as I think he knows I would like him to do that first.
He might be checking when Dad is in. That is probably wishful thinking though!!
Hope your doing alright Verandi xxSince starting again after beanie: June 2016: Child development DVDs, Massive Attack tickets. July: Aberystwyth trip, hotmilk nightie. Aug: £10 Hipp Organic vouchers, powerpack. September: Sunglasses. October: £30 poundland vouchers.0 -
I am still here, waiting, hoping probably be here forever :rotfl:
Couldn't watch DTTB the other day and OH said, it will happen, please just relax and go with the flow. To be honest tho I am in 2 minds about it happening right now, EX hubby has just got engaged and I don't want everyone thinking we are copying, silly I know, but ..... I know OH has opened a saving account, he won't tell me what he is saving for so.......
Eleanor - Oooo interesting!! let's hope it does mean something and that it happens for you soon, so you don't have to make any hard decisions.
Swampy - Good luck for the wedding in August, I am sure it will be pefect and worth the wait
Squirrel - eeek!!! nearly at your holiday tho, so exciting, annoying but very exciting!!
Minerva - I know what you mean some days it does not bother me at all and goes far down the pecking order, other days I can not think of anything other, I am hoping one day the not bothering may overtake the wanting it so badly side.
Miss Verandi and JTR hope they will be back to chat soon.
Hope everyone else is ok x0 -
Just having a read through the last few pages of posts, not been able to have a properly read recently.
Verandi- sending you a massive cyber hug, I hope you're doing ok & that get through this tough time without becoming cynical about men, life etc...and that you find the happiness that you so deserve.
I don't know you at all but I feel that we are quite similar in some ways, especially in some of our posts- a few of yours I feel could definitely have been written by me!
jtr- I hope that you are having a good time away on holiday, I hope that you are back on here soon. You are so honest and so eloquently put into words things that I only seem able to push into a box and try to ignore.
Thank you for starting this amazing thread, it has helped me hugely (and sooo many others) knowing that there are others out there feeling the same way.
I'm having a bit of a moment tonight, but trying to bring myself up and smile. It's definitely tough some days0 -
Thank you Chick, it's nice to hear from you again. How are things with you?
I'm ok. OH and I are still together, and things are getting better between us again. I know from reading my posts it probably sounded like he was having an affair or something, but it wasn't that. It was something we can move on from but only if he doesn't lie to me again. I'm not 100% convinced he will, but only time will tell I guess.
Ally that definitely sounds promising about the savings account! I can't think of anything else it could be for where he wouldn't be able to tell you what it was.
Hope everyone has been enjoying the sunshine, shame it's gone cold again but summer was nice while it lasted :rotfl:0
