Erm I kind of have good news. Had some histrionics etc and since then I have secured phrases such as:

'I know what you want and you just have to trust me'

'You need to stop mentioning it as there needs to be some sort of element of surprise'

(When talking about the stress relating to buying a house) 'I will do the house stuff and you can do the wedding stuff'

So I am still hoping and crossing fingers. We are going to Denmark for our 3 years as we are getting free accomodation. Not sure it's a proposal place as I have no romantic affiliation to it (would feel more like me to be proposed to in our local indian restaurant!!) but we will have to see!!

I hope jtr is having a lovely time.

Aww Eleanor that is quite positive! Fingers crossed!

I hope JTR is having a nice time on her holibobs!

Got our first wedding invite of the year today, the Dutch wedding next month (far too laid back for my liking!) and bf was like it's weird that he's getting married, he's younger than me (bf is 29 and his friend a couple of months younger!) and I was like really?! A lot of my friends are married with kids and I'm only 23... Yes that is quite young but not to start thinking about settling down, ie: engagement!! So I said, I already know I will be in my 80s before I walk down the aisle for you so you know...

Come to terms with the fact now I am going to waiting a long time before anything happens... Still doesn't not break my heart though...

    Xxx

    Ok major hurt tonight...

Went to the pub after work with work friends... All was well, a colleagues wife came in with their month old gorgeous baby, I got a cuddle and stuff which was great, no one else wanted one so got to hold her for ages :)

They left and as did pretty much everyone else leaving me, the bf and a girl colleague who is like 30 odd. The conversation turned to having kids and getting married... They discussed how they were too young to settle down... They said how that they don't want to be tied down with the kids etc... She goes out EVERY weekend, gets absolutely smashed every time... He never goes out... Wait we never go out... Unless it's someone's birthday or whatever by out I mean clubbing or anything that means leaving the house after work or at the weekend... We stay in and watch tv, which is fine by me I mean I am 23 I have every reason to go out... Just doesn't appeal and he never suggests or wants to... So yeah... Got the wedding next month and he said he will never bow down to pressure on getting married etc... I just joke and say it will be a long time before I get what I want... And it's true it is... And I think it does effect me more than I realise...

Sorry just had to rant xxx

  • Fingers crossed for you Eleanor, all sounds very positive!

I hope JTR is enjoying her holiday :)

Gah, sorry to hear that rdchick :( Nothing wrong with not going out if you don't want to mind - I have to admit I'm not a big 'night out' person myself - but I know that feeling of feeling like you want to do something and other people doing it and you not being able to for whatever reason.

Still no news from me I'm afraid - we're still planning to go on our big trip in August and come back just before Christmas, so that's the focus at the moment. Although is it sad that I'm thinking I don't want to get engaged on the trip (which could well happen as I'd probably turn 25 somewhere in Australia so he might decide to do it there) because I'd be paranoid about losing the ring, even if it was just a cheap one? I know I'm a sentimental whatsit but based on how upset I was when I thought I'd hoovered up a 2 euro earring, which was the first thing OH ever bought me, I can only imagine what I'd be like if I lost my 'engagement' ring...

Another weekend arrived with no sign of the ring.... surely the jeweller isnt taking this long...???

Seeing more friends this weekend, yet more good news (babies).... when will it be our turn.... the wait is becoming more and more frustrating with each weekend that passes.
His family are coming up in 2 weeks, I really would have thought he'd have done it by then....

Its annoying me because when I thought he might do it when we're on holiday in May, he said that was too long to wait - well we're almost in April now and there is so much on (friends celebrations and me being away with work for some of it) that if he doesnt do it soon, there wont be much time before May is here!!

Thanks for the good wishes. I'm just hoping so much. My best friend is getting marries on 21st of April and I just pray pray pray I will be sitting with an engagement ring on!! Pleeeeaaaasssseeeee!!! Please don't not want to get engaged because you might lose it!!! There's always that chance and it would be fantastic!

Sorry RDchick for some reason I can't quote your post-Is there a reason you don't like going out with friends and having a dance?? I am not thinking that you should. I suppose it's because I do! I'm 31 and don't get me wrong I stay in soooo much more than I used to but I do still love a night out. I think I probably will do until I have kiddies (and even then I reckon I'll sneak out for the odd dance on a table!!) Does your partner know how much it upsets you for him to sit there in front of you and talk about how he 'doesn't want to be tied down'? I think he maybe deserved a bit of a kick in the shins for that one

AAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah hurry up Mr Squirrel! This is the main reason I keep checking back on this forum (as I know it is not good for my histrionic/hysterics meter!!) I just can't wait until you are engaged!! Please let us know asap :)

So no more signs here-who knows when I will get my sparkly ring! Happy Saturday everyone (I'm staying in RDchick-you would be proud of me :):)) xxxx
