Check backfoot's post above yours - there's no need to wait until 31/12/11 to be out of there!
  • Hi all can anyone help me with EDF and their 'CHARGES'

Moved into my 3 bed house in April 2010, on online saver 5 was paying £33.00 a month for my gas. Winter came and it rose to £60.00 per month. Just had £485.00 taken out of my account today, phoned EDf and they say due to the bad winter we had, the £60.00 per month wasn't enough. So all in all £1165.00 in gas alone for a year is this correct?

How can anyone tell you that unless you post your kWh usage? It appears that your DD was set far too low and so you have had a huge catch up bill-this can be avoided by updating your meter readings at least every 3 months.

I feel dirty because I've fallen for the hype for the first time and transferred from Saver 7 to Fix 2014 today. No exit fees or repaying the £100 welcome bonus confirmed by a very helpful manager (got his name, of course). The reason I went for this is it covers the next 3 winters. Still not convinced I've done the right thing, though.

Mmm. I've not gone for the fix. I've gone for SP Direct.

The 2014 fix is a 21% premium today for me over the SP product.

Even in this volatile environment that's too high for me.I like gambling though !

As you know, you pay the premium in pound notes till the 21% is used up before you start to claw it back (for other's benefit, I know you get it.)

    Following discussions today.;)

I have it on very good authority that cancellation charges will be waived,in the short term, following this OS7 price increase.

    Hope this helps.:)

How did you get this info, on what authority?

I am considering switching under the right to reject a price increase clause, but I would want something in writing to confirm they won't be charging me.

Thanks Backfoot, as always you help deal with EDF. The girl ive spoke to in social media who contacted me from this website after I had a rant about them says the cancellation charge with apply to me.

(I was going to email you about this :D.)

I want clarification from SP (thats who I will switch too.) that prices of their new tariff will not be affected after the 1st of aug switch. Do you have any information ?

    Cheers Mate

The premium for me is approx £120/year so nowhere near 20% or I wouldn't have gone for it TBH. The SP product put me off because of this T&C:
Under the ScottishPower Direct October 2012 Offer, your prices are guaranteed to remain a minimum of 1% per annum below ScottishPower’s standard monthly Direct Debit (No Standing Charge) gas and electricity prices until 30th September 2012.

Only 1% below guaranteed?? That means they can increase the current rates considerably and you are still locked in due to the T&Cs. And SP have got form shall we say for pulling a fast one in the past so not tempted. The real reason I've gone for the fix is because it covers the next 3 winters. But like I say still not convinced I've done the right thing (I've got 12 days to make up my mind)

Got the letter today with the lovely sharp increase (nearly 3p a unit increase on the electric). Plugged usage figures into comparison site from last year and whilst british gas worked out cheaper, I don't believe they have announced their latest increases.

I therefore remained with EDF and switched onto the Fixed S@ver 2 tariff which works out pretty much the same as the new online s@ver 7 prices for my usage. Gas is a touch more expensive and electric is a touch cheaper but the two balance out and according to uswitch its actually about a fiver cheaper for the year on the fixed tariff.

Least they can't increase it again now until September 2012
