MSE News: Scottish Power to hike energy prices

I wouldn`t be surprised if it goes today as it`s the last day of the month and then they can bring out OES15 at a higher rate tomorrow.
All those who have dithered since the price increase will be caught out with options decreasing all the time.
That is obviously a possibility but it also possible that they have left OES14 at it's April price level and not include it in the August increases specifically to make it look extremely attractive so that those who rush in will select it. Then, in the not too distant future they can raise the prices in the hope that most people will not then opt to change supplier or have to pay the penalty charge if they do.
As OES14 is still at the April price, it is currently giving a considerably better discount than the 2% below Standard price that it guarantees and there is nothing to stop them bringing this back to the 2% guarantee level at any time which will then bring in the substantial increases that all the other tariffs are suffering on 1st August.
It really is a guessing game and you could be wrong whichever way you jump.
My options seem to be different to those expressed so far on here.
I am currently on OES6, which is a 3% discount on Standard charges and this expires on 31st July. I have the option to change to OES9, which is also a 3% discount and runs until April 2012. (this option is apparently exclusive to current OES6 customers) No mention was made of OES14, which would give about a £200 pa reduction as it stands now but this would only last for 9 months and I am concerned about the potential OES14 price being increased. If it is pulled tomorrow I will miss the chance but I am in any case leaning towards the Fixed Price Energy January 2015 which would give a small increase now but is then fixed until 31/12/2014.0 -
If OES14 increases then anyone that wants to is entitled to move penalty free to whoever/whatever.
OES14 wasn`t included in the latest increase because it`s a fairly new tariff and was already "increased" compared to the other tariffs.
The brand new tariff that they did bring out but quickly withdrew because of Ofgem, Direct Oct 2012 was on par with OES14.
So there is no reason to suppose they`ll increase OES14, they`ll just abandon it to new customers and offer OES15.0 -
Sat in the garden today to hear a voice from other side of the gate,
Scottish Power canvassers :rotfl:
Bearing in mind i am already with SP
Telling me that for a one day only sign up there and then they can give customers a premium price fixed till 2015 of 10.4p daily rate 7 days a week and night rate of e7 at about 5p.
I told him i was an existing customer and could i be offered that rate and he said no its for new customers only! I said so is this because so many are leaving you and he said " noone is leaving SP they are just changing tarriffs, we may have put our prices up but noone is offering what we are and everyone will follow with hike"
I did ask him to explain a bit further how as a customer i wasnt offered such a good rate but he couldnt explain too well2025 Wins ::

I switched a couple of weeks ago to the EDF V2 fixed to Sept 12. Scottish Power have just rung me to try to put me on a capped rate which I fobbed off. Is there OES 14 cheaper than the EDF V2?? They were keen for me to reverse my switch, so may ring them back0

In the entrance of our local Morrisons, nearly every other week, there are a couple of hawkers, lurking about trying to persuade people to switch, and of course they insist THEY are the cheapest, no matter which of the "big 6" they represent.
Funny thing is, some people actually believe their patter.0 -
Most of these penalties for leaving early don't apply if you have to end the contract because you are moving home. Is there anything to stop people from ringing up their existing supplier, telling them they're moving and getting the contract ended. Then contacting the new supplier & tell them you are moving in from that same date?
I've never been asked for any proof when telling an energy company I'm moving out. Maybe you would have to choose somewhere outside the supply area of you existing suppler? If so, another country should do the trick.0 -

no - unless you left a debt with the old supplier and they traced you they would probably never know. As it takes 6-8 weeks to change supplier would just mean youhave a time on a tariff you don't want, that has no cancellation charge0 -
I rang to ask about this today and they said they are pulling it tonight or tomorrow morning - not sure if this is a sales ploy or not.I wouldn`t be surprised if it goes today as it`s the last day of the month and then they can bring out OES15 at a higher rate tomorrow.
All those who have dithered [STRIKE]since the price increase will be caught out with options decreasing all the time[/STRIKE], congratulations as you will benefit from the low, pre-increase prices for yet another month :T .
I corrected your post
SP haven't got much room to manoeuvre over prices; there are a buunch of competitors chomping at their heels over prices should SP decide to hike them with an introduction of OES15.
By the sounds of it, SP have waived their early exit fees to all affected by the price rises ... but of course, those who have already transferred tariffs are now locked back in again... for even longer."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -

So you would have some explaining to do when you call back and say you have just moved into the property you declared you were moving out of in an attempt to avoid paying what you owed
Look foward to the installation of the PPMs..."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
People who move into a new property have to accept the existing supplier, at least initially.

A bit off topic but I have wondered why this is. Why isn`t it a case of the contract being cancelled when the tenant moves out and the new tenant selecting a supplier and agreeing contract terms immediately on entry to the house?:money:0
