The contract is that the supplier will bill you on the standard tariff. You do not take over ant LTC - you are free to switch unless you, as the new occupier opt for a deal with cancellation charges!
Regarding the 'moving home' idea - the most common ploy is the 'i've split from my partner' line - get the bills changed from mr to mrs!

I understand that but why don`t people have a choice of who they want from day 1?

Because it takes weeks to switch and the power you consume from day one has to be paid for. You are free to commence a switch from day one as soon as you register for the deemed contract.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

    I corrected your post ;)

"All those who have dithered since the price increase will be caught out with options decreasing all the time, congratulations as you will benefit from the low, pre-increase prices for yet another month"

You didn`t correct my post, you added the above in blue which I didn`t say.

That bit doesn`t apply to me because although I switch to OES14 on 22/6/11 my electricity rates are exactly the same as OES12.

This time of the year I don`t use any gas either so I`m not losing anything for another month.

The only thing I may have lost is the OES14 tariff if I had dithered about to the end of July.

I switched to OES 12 a month before the end of my previous contract and then they brought out OES13 which was cheaper so I think I will take my chances and wait to see if they bring out OES15 before Aug 1..

A bit off topic but I have wondered why this is. Why isn`t it a case of the contract being cancelled when the tenant moves out and the new tenant selecting a supplier and agreeing contract terms immediately on entry to the house?

Erm, because it takes longer than one day to switch suppliers for a property!

But wouldn`t it be better if the contract was cancelled when the tenant moves out and the new one selects a supplier and the contract would start straight away. If it wasn`t for the 28 day contract, is there any other reason this wouldn`t work?

I was on OES12 since last Feb but with the massive price increase this tariff will increase on 1st Aug (for me with D/F) by 38%.

Switching to OES14 is (for me) an increase of 11%.

I`m not clear which tariff you are on OES12 or 13 but by going to the SP site you can find out how your particular tariff is affected by the price increase.
  • I have just received a letter from Scottish Power informing me that my daily service charge will increase from 16.95p to 33.20p. I'm not a mathematician but that is NOT a 19% increase. 100% more like! I'm switching NOW.
