MSE News: Scottish Power to hike energy prices

MANY THANKS CARDEW
I wish i had heard the broadcast did Martin say we needed to fix for as long as we could? I really am stumped between the 1 year and 3 year (2014) :0(0 -
Nobody, but nobody, knows if any fixed tariff will turn out to be a good move - it is simply a gamble!
Given the mammoth hike BG has dumped on its customers it may well be a gamble that'll pay off. Hopefully those BG customers who can move to alternative suppliers will now do so.
Presumably OFGEM is as toothless in this matter as it is in all matter energy company regulating!!0 -
Well i took the bull by the horns and finally switched tonight :0) after a month of not being able to choose i went for the EDF fixed till 2014. I'll be £50 a month worse off but then i presume it'll make itself back up in what i would have lost once the price hikes go up :0) Plus i had the cavity wall insulation with those little beads so you never know my usage might be less.
Fingers crossed i did the right thing.
I was tempted by the 1 year fixed with npower giving me a saving of £99 but then i figured I can't see fuel prices going down any time soon and by the time the 1 year fixed clears up the offers would have been more expensive.... i only hope i am right and don't live to regret it :0(0 -
TO FAIRY WISHES I think you did ok there, I have gone for npower fix 6 , was going to go for Edf's 2014. But as I am already a customer of edf for 8 years I thought I will try someone different . Rang Edf to say I am moving to fix rate with another supplier, they didnt offer me any of theres. Now they have rang me 3 times possibly because npower have got in touch with them to confirm the readings , offering me fix ver 2 and 2014. I am staying put with npower then I'll decide in July 2012.0

Good to know that someone else has gone for it too - reinforces my decision.
Still, some belt tightening is going to need to be done, and God help us all when interest rates start to rise eventually.0 -

:0) my husband was determined all the way we should go for the fixed 2014 deal instead of the 1 year it was just me who was stalling and thinking about the 1 year deal fixed.
Having done abit of research and heard about 5 different advisors on the radio etc advising people to fix for as long as they can i finally buckled and realised not everyone could be wrong lol and there must be some truth in it!
Then i traumatised myself over the cashback sites but as most reviews from people on the cashback sites say its not paying out i went for the case of wine via mse after finding a forum topic on mse re the free case of wine and it looks like that arrives with relative ease and is actually worth £60 :0)
For anyone waiting for their wine this thread below actually has uswitch representitives answering questions :0)

Update--its still available to existing customers, not new ones.
Does anybody know the rates on OES 14? Try as i might i can't find them via the SP website.
Would i be better off than the following which is what i've been told are my new charges from 1st August (currently on OES 12)?
Leccy:
First 225Kwh each quarter 21.558p
All/day remaining 10.664p
Gas:
First 670Kwh 7.541p
Then 3.457p
Sorry clueless about this so any pointers very welcome please before it's too late.0 -

Best thing for you to do is to put your yearky KWH usage through a comparison site such as energyhelpline.com. This should bring up OES14 as an option and then by clicking on it you can see the tariff details.
Gas is :
6.480 p for the first 670 kWh per quarter, and 2.756 p thereafter inc of vat
Elec prices vary by region0 -
Now I'm getting confused.
Elektra states "Gas is :
6.480 p for the first 670 kWh per quarter, and 2.756 p thereafter inc of vat"
Using a search engine I can find these prices on the Scottish Power site but they're noted "effective from 28th April 2011". Surely these have now been increased?
AND - if I start from SP's homepage I cannot see OES 14 being offered, there's a statement that there are no discounted deals at the moment. Yet OES 14 is not listed under "Previous Products" either.
Can anyone throw any light on any of these points?0
