I'm on OES12... only since February...

After some frantic calculations, calls to my previous supplier (EON) for my 2010-11 annual usage... various price comparisons... the cheapest fixed/capped was EDF Fixed Saver 2 (Total £1164.20, saving £224.23), fixed until 30/9/2012. Plus I would get £20 cashback (Quidco). Npower pays more cashback but meant paying a slightly higher price from a shorted fixed period. Obviously moving to these would incur the £50 SP penalty.

In the end it was the peace of mind of SP
Online Energy - Capped Rate (No Standing Charge) Revised B... and it's longer period to 31/5/2013 that made me go for that instead.... just done it online.

I am very angry about this... almost feel like SP have orchestrated it in some way so that we all jump onto a capped rate. although if prices do fall we wont at least lose out against the fixed deals. Oh well at least I can better budget for the next two years I suppose.

oops - I see your earlier post now!! When is the notification of price change? Do I have to wait for an email or does the fact that it is all over the news count?
    Thanks

Not sure when the notifications will be out, but he did say that you will have 30 days to reject the price rises and move without penalty. Think you may have to wait for the notification if you're moving to another supplier.

    Hi all,
I switched from a fixed tariff to OSE12 the same as many others on here and when I heard the news on the radio sat in the queue to a SP advisor to discuss further. On my fixed tariff I was paying £65 a month, switched to OSE12 in Feb and went down to £60 but was suspicious that seemed too good to be true. I queried the capped rates and was told about one until June 2013 and another until Nov 2013.
My monthly DD prices were indicated as below:
    £60pm on OSE12 now
    £70pm on OSE12 from 1st August
£80pm for capped until June 2013
£85pm for capped until Nov 2013 but also with unifi.

Being a gadget fanatic I was too tempted to go for the last one with Unifi and calculated that my yearly cost will go from £679 to £979!!!
I did a check on uswitch and the best fixed rate was with EON at about £850 with others between £850 and £950...
The unifi thing is worth around £120 which would work out about £50 per year until the end of the cap. They also said the OSE12 would be liable for another jump in price in November when that deal ends?
I switched over and was assured there was a cooling off period where I could still roll back the switch but if I did switch to another supplier I would still also be charged the leaving fee of about £50. Interesting reading on here that that wouldn't apply if within 30 days on being notified which I'm guessing would be from 3 days from now (11th)?
I might still change my mind and this 'cooling off period' concept might be of interest to others possibly if it allows you to switch to a capped tariff in a panic and then even switch suppliers if you find a better deal!
I also noticed the unifi capped deal changed on 19th May and he confirmed it was a fair bit cheaper before then and I would be paying about £6 less a month if I had of switched to it back in Feb instead!
Annoying they have (as could be expected) prepared for the reaction to the price rise by already bumping their capped rate prices weeks before...

    Platinum Fixed Energy January 2014:
    - Fixed until Jan 2014
    - Homecomfort Standard Boiler Care (is this a one off or up until Jan 2014?). Quick google search says this is around £150 annually.

Just looking really long term. It would be 2.5 years fixed from now. Fuel can only go up and inflation can only bring mean I benefit when the price is fixed?

Energyhelpline says it will cost me £280 more. Around a 40% increase. Surely this won't be the end of price rises, thus I would benefit?

    anyone please?

How feasible is it that another company can get you switched over and the deal completed in the 30 days? What is to stop SP from just saying oh sorry,it wasn't done in time. After all,if you are leaving, they are hardly going to show any leniency towards you!

I am still trying to make up my mind about what to do.Switching will not save a lot if you then find yourself £50 worse off.And there isn't time to let a few guinea pigs trial it :D

Depends on whether you already have or are considering having the boiler cover really. It is quite an expensive tariff, and i never trust these insurance schemes as ther are so many get out clauses.Prefer to deal with problems as they arrive.

But yes,i can't see fuel prices coming down or even staying static long term.Just like the petrol and diesel and even food prices.

Times are tough and getting tougher by the day.

And they (the suppliers) know that the OFGEM bods will shortly ravage them so they want to lock in the increases now:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Misquoting a famous putdown " being ravaged by OFGEM is like being ravaged by a dead sheep". OFGEM keeps on threatening the suppliers but nothing happens possibly because they are funded by the companies they are supposed to regulate.:rotfl:
