Hi All,
Is there anybody out there who is looking to sign up for Alliance & leicester's great Current Account and wants a 'friend' who has already signed up to refer them? That way we both get the £50 - everybody wins!
Any takers? Email me if you'd like to do this any I'll send you a scanned copy of the refererral voucher.
Thanks

Coventry Building Society have today announced a new current/savings account called the Coventry First which is paying 5.1% AER on whole of balance providing you pay in a minimum of £1,000 per month from an external source. The account is fee free for everyday banking services and also includes a £250 interest free overdraft. How does this compare to the existing best current accounts?0

I have just seen this one too, and can't see any big strings, even as a stand alone savings account it looks good. I have just come off a Year of A & L and need a free overdraft. This looks llike it could be the oneRemember a bank will always lend you an umbrella, they will always take it back when it rains0

I already have a savings account with them. They are an excellent organisation. I applied to day for this account. I will be sent a form to sign and, once they receive it, my new account will be set up and my card sent out. They are very quick with account applications.
Another bonus is that you accrue interest from when the cheque is lodged and not when it clears. Also, if you transfer to a 3rd party from the Coventry it arrives on the 2nd day instead of the normal 3rd.0 -

I changed to A & L last June and myself and my partner are still waiting for the £50.00. We are getting out with A & L at the first opportunity as they've cocked everything up (direct debits etc) and don't respond to letters.0 -
Poppin' my cherry on here today
The above article says "provided you’ve paid £1,000 a month into the account". On Barclays Additions it says "To qualify, pay at least £1,000 into your Barclays current account each month, including your salary".
I can pay £1K in but it looks like I must also pay my salary in - anyone know for sure if I have to?
cheers me dears :A0 -
Hi Frugal Foxy (love the name)
I have literally just put the phone down from asking Barclays this very question. Having just moved my salary, am reluctant to use this, but they are very pushy on this point. It does look from the wording that you can use some other form of mandated payment, eg pension, tax credits, dividends, other benefit etc., and can top that up to make the £1000 with a transfer. I persisted with this, but they just advised to go and see a personal adviser in a branch. Let us know how you get on...
