Hi,
my laptop has got too much stuff on it, going through it i discovered i have 3 microsoft stuff on here,? not making any sense, but they are taking up alot of memory , so something ain't right :-/

Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007 & Microsoft Office 2007
both are taking up 653mb each? do i only need one of these?
and microsoft works taking up 263mb, isnt this a basic version of microsoft?

I want to delete, but want to make 100% sure that i can before i get carried away
and
microsoft.NET framework 3.5 SP1?
microsoft.NET framework4 client profile?
also
should avast antivirus be 150mb?
acer tour? 147mb i have never used this, dont even think i need to

these are the ones taking up the most memory and to be honest its all too complicated for me

If you have MS Office you don't really need MS Works. However, it's not likely any of these are the main problem. If your system is short of space you probably have a lot of other files on the system, do you save lots of video or music to it? If so remove stuff like this which is not required, or save it to an external disk.

MS works doesnt need to be there, if you have office.
    Dont delete the .net framework.
Avast will be bigger than you think, due to the amount of new files it downloads to protect itself.

Did you buy it from a place like comet/currys etc?
It might be partitioned, meaning there's some of the harddrive being saved for other things.

If you are worried about it, the best thing to do is to back everything up to a DVD/Portable hardrive and then start again, I had to do with with a shop bought laptop because of all the crap they decided to put on there.
    A work in progress. <3

    Is your hard disk full?
    !!
    > . !!!! ----> .
  • do you clean your history and temporary folders? Don't know if I am allowed to advertise a program but it is freeware.

    Download CCleaner. Google it.

Go through the options carefully and check all the boxes you desire. You'll be surprised how much good a quick registry cleanup and general computer clean will do!

On the installs be very careful what you do uninstall you can do alot more harm than good if your knowledge is not so good!

However I found the best way to learn the operations of a computer, trial and error! Just remember to always backup!

The stuff you've mentioned amounts to a total of less than 2GB. Hard drives have been measured in hundreds of GB for quite a while.

Unless this is a very old machine you have not found either a lot of free space (probably a partition which will appear as a D: or E: drive) or you do have a lot of your own stuff stored.

The chances are that the Microsoft Office software is only a trial and will stop working eventually. MS Works is pretty much useless and the free Open Office can replace all that lot.

If you have your pics and music on a flash drive already then do know how to back up?
But first of all advise how large your hard drive is and how much free spce is left (go to te drive via My Computer and right click, Properties). As a rough guide you need 15% free space to run smoothly.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
