So they'd have had to process that yesterday for you to have a reply today! You need to give it at least until the end of this week.

I didn't see it as impatient, I maybe naively just assumed it was an automated process. I.e. EnergyHelpline send me email, notify EDF, EDF Email me to confirm they've received a request, and the ball is then in EDF's court.

If you're that impatient, then you're not going to like EDF very much...

Edit: As for their service afterwards, I'm not too worried. I barely had to speak to BG, I assume similar with this, they supply my gas & elec, I pay. :)

If you're worried about the tariff being pulled, then ring them up and get it confirmed that way.

    I think I'll give them a call.

Your comment about the meter readings is *very* interesting and something I had missed. I last submitted readings about 2 weeks ago (I have a screen print proof), which triggered a doubling of the electricity payment for no consumption:D. This morning the gas reading is the 2 week old reading with yesterday's date, the electricity reading is not the submitted reading but is an quite accurate estimate (as it happens) for yesterday, except it is not marked as an estimate.

Edf cannot "win" a fight based on accurate metering and Direct Debit compliance with experienced posters, but I worry about less experienced switchers. They need some urgent words of comfort and advice from Consumer Focus.

I actually went out to check the meters - the gas reading I commented on,must be an estimate as we haven't reached the figure yet!!! But nowhere on the meter reading page does it indicate "E"!
It's only a slight overestimate but a bit concerning, as it is only 5 weeks since the switch. I'll wait to see if an electricity reading appears and/or the DD is altered!!:(

How do you know that your meter readings have accepted, does it show up anywhere?

I phoned them up, and just for the record, anyone who's interested in the EDF Customer Service experience.
    • Phoned at 14:24
    • Through at 14:34
    • Advisor spoke to welcomes department
    • Done at 14:44
    • The lady I spoke to was very pleasant.
    • She is calling me back later this afternoon

But... EDF have no record of me or my switch yet. She offered to set me up there and then as a new customer, or that she could call me back later when I'd had chance to call EnergyHelpline. I took the second option.

I've tried calling EnergyHelpline, but due to them being busy I only get an option to leave a message which will hopefully be returned within 24 hours! So I've sent them an email intsead.

I'm inclined to sign up with EDF directly and lose out on cashback, rather than lose out on the tariff altogether by risking it being pulled at any day.

Thanks, no figures in the boxes, I have submitted again, seems to be OK now.

The meter reading part is entirely inconsistent.

Today it only shows a field for electricity. Yesterday it showed gas and electricity with previous readings.

At the same time the status was asking for a gas opening read (already input).

The Senior Customer Services Manager kept telling me how much better the new system was going to be.

If I had a supply business, number one priority would be meter reading capture and functionality. Heaven help them.:o
  • Is EDF Fixed 2014 based on new prices? It's not that much better than other fixed price offers from suppliers who have, so am assuming it takes that into consideration? Am tossing up wether to sign up for FP 2014, or go with the Co-op...

I'm 95% sure that over two and a half years fixing with EDF will prove to be worthwhile from a financial perspective, but at what psychological price?! from what I've read it's a royal pain should something not go entirely smoothly, and it quite often doesn't (despite a few, like n power, having much worse customer service?!)

...so am tempted to sign up with the Co-op knowing I can leave anytime, that money isn't going to the big six, is ethical, has better customer experience/service, and that even if it costs me a few more quid in the long term, I won't have those odd days when you're on the phone (on hold) losing the will to live, knowing that speaking to someone will probably have no effect, and wishing with all your heart you'd not signed up to a fixed plan... cynical I know, but coming from experience.

Cash over time/hassle - the classic dilemma!
