PMSL my OH doesnt drink but I sent him to the counter with my peach Lambrini as I look 15 (Im 22) and had no ID.
The shop assistant refused to sell him it either despite the fact he had shown him his drivers licence as he thought my OH might buy it and give it to me.
I explained both of us were over 25 but still refused0 -

not read all the threads, but, i work in a shop,,,where we have to do endless staff training on "think 25",,, we also have internal and external "mystery shoppers",,, if we fail internal we get a warning,,, if we fail several we can get dismissed. If we fail external, we go to police station get finger prints etc, get a court date and then get a fine,,, oh and for good measure we also get dismissed from the company.
So, as you can see, a lot of us shop workers , work under this "threat" knowing we have test purchasers coming into store on a regular basis. Therefore i am going to be th
orough in checking id, on those who appear to look under 25. There is no way i am getting a criminal record and loosing my job, just because some people take offence... i personally would love to be asked for id

I was in Sainsburys a few years ago when it was 'Think 21' campaign.
I went to buy a 12 rated dvd and the woman on the checkout refused to sell it to me as i was 20 (only a week off 21).
I ended up going to customer services to complain about the situation and the woman there was really apologetic and explained that when an item such as alcohol, dvds etc flash up as 'Think 21' (or 'Think 25' now) on the till, then it is up to the staff to make the desicion to sell it....i can understand that about alcohol but not a 12 dvd when the person purchasing it is 20!0 -
I never get Id'ed and I'm 24 nearly 25. My H2B on the other hand is 28 and still get's Id'ed for Cigs haahahah! It makes me laugh most of the time because he's probably older than the person serving him!

Sounds like that staff member misunderstood and thought that if 'Think 21' appears on the screen then the customer needs to be over 21, bit of re-training needed there I think.0 -

Which is where the policy totally falls down, its supposed to be a prompt ie does the customer look over 21 ? if the answer is no then the cashier should request ID NOT refuse outright as you appear under the cautionary age
Its meant to make it easier for staff whereas in fact so many people have had bad experiences with it its just made a mockery of it !Bow Ties ARE cool "Just because you are offended, doesnt mean you are right" Ricky Gervais

Somebody mentioned on page 3 that the store gets and pays the fine, Can i just remind people that some of us actually hold our own personal licence for selling alcohol, which means that if we are caught selling alcohol to underage people WE get the fines and WE get endorsements put on our alcohol licence, and we can also have it suspended for 6 months or for major offences Forfeited for 5 years.
for anyone wanting to know more about the personal licence see
