I get id'd on a very regular basis everywhere, from pubs to betting shops to garages and supermarkets whilst trying to buy cigarettes. Much as I appreciate the tough penalties imposed on anyone breaking the rules I feel there is often very little common sense used. I'm 43 and yes I look young for my age but not THAT young. I used to get a bit fed up with it but now I just find it amusing and take it as a compliment:rotfl:

I'm 29, although a lot of people tell me I look waaay younger, and I get ID'd all the flipping time. Pubs, tesco, asda, buying alcohol, buying 18+ DVDs, buying marinade sauce with jack daniels or something in it.
I don't really mind that much as I always have my driving license on me.

My h2b however is 24, and never gets ID'd. You wouldn't think he's any older than 24/25 in any way either. Maybe I just look more suspicious!

Hi at my local Spar last year I was behind a group of 6 young girls, who looked to be between 18-25, all dressed up for a night out. One girl attempted to pay for the bottle of vodka and the red bull and was told they would all have to produce ID as they were obviously intending to share it and all needed to be over 18. I thought it was a very sensible thing to do, I know when I was a youngster the one friend who had already turned 18 would buy the alcohol for all of us 16 and 17 year olds! However 2 days later in the same store with a member of staff who seemed to have limited english decided he couldnt sell me a miniature bottle of wine and 2 cans of kronenburg (when me and my oh decide we fancy a drink this is all we get, neither of us are big drinkers!) unless both me and my 8 YEAR OLD stepdaughter provided ID!! I showed him my driving licence as proof I was 27, but told him of course my sd didnt have id, she is obviously only 8, and the fact that she was a customer in her own right (she was using her pocket money to buy a magazine, she likes to be independent so wouldnt let me put it in with her shopping) proves that the alcohol wasnt for her. I demanded to see the manager who also has limited english who told me it was legal policy that anyone that looks under 25 must be asked for ID, and if anyone is with under 18's they must all also have ID. I asked if it would be the same if I came in with my 2 year old and was told the law is the law. I told him he had the law wrong, and I would take my custom elsewhere and left the shopping. The next day I returned (the day management is VERY different to the night management) they apologised, agreed he had it wrong to an extent, they have to use their discretion in ID-ing groups of people where there looks be be people underage present, usually 16 and 17 year olds, not parents with children!
I understand shops having to be vigilant but maybe there should be tougher crackdowns on the gangs of children hanging about outside shops touting for people to buy them drink and cigarettes. Our police force just move them away, but I would like to see undercover officers entering shops, and when the child asks them to buy, they are withheld and returned home by the police, names etc kept on records, parents given a talking to. And if they are caught a second time then there should be a punishment. Or lets come down hard on the parents who know their kids are out drinking on the streets!!
Lets not become an over zealous country where innocent people are punished for a few's misdemeanours!!
Ideas, help and advice always welcome, judgements and assumptions are not!!
