so what forms of id are they taking then?
I am 30, with an 8yo son, and so far have not been asked, but would be stuck if they did.
I don't have a passport, and cannot drive... what am i supposed to do?
God knows. I was completely stuck until I got my prov. licence. They wouldn't accept my (original) birth certificate, a medical card or anything I had on me at the time.
If you don't drive or you've never been out of the country, you might as well not exist!'til the end of the line0 -
I buy alcohol at the supermarkets usually with my 23m old in the trolley and they dont ask to see his ID! However there was some young kids buying sweets at a till and they were asked to go to a no alcohol till as they couldnt be served at a licensed till? Bit strange. My local off licence has decided that they will only take driver licences and passports as ID and not the electoral card, which is the only valid ID i carry, had to convince them to serve me. Perhaps there are a lot of fake ones in circulation?!0

It's a good idea and I hope it helps someone else. It's just infuriating that you have to fork out money for a little card to prove how old you are. Stupid nanny state. As if the underaged teenagers would even buy naughty things from a big supermarket anyway when there's so many other ways to get your hands on...things.'til the end of the line0 -
Alot of places dont accept citizen cards now. When i worked for the co-op it was only driving lisence or passport.
I got ID'd in Wilkinson for a pocket sewing kit...0 -
Two years ago when my son was 16 my other half took him to the local spar as he needed a prit stick for his coursework and they refused to sell it to my other half (who was 35 at the time and had id) as 16yr didnt have id on him.:D0

The general public don't seem to realise that the member of staff could ultimately end up with a conviction for an offence with a minor if caught selling to someone under age.
Now what does an offence with a minor sound like? Makes you sound like a pervert doesn't it!
Think next time you are in the supermarket moaning because you have been asked to prove your age.0 -
