*Think 25* ? how annoying

I went to sainsburies with my partner and our kids earlier to pick up some bits and bobs for my sons birthday tomorrow.
We picked up a 4 pack of JD&coke along with the other bits and bobs and proceeded to the self serve aisle...when I scanned it it flashed for approval like always...I produced my ID but we couldn't have it because my partner didnt have ID nor our 13 year old and I could have been buying it for either of them.
Oh is 32 there isnt a spare inch of flesh that hasn't been tattoo's on. He isnt exactly youthful either.
Is this *think 25* going to be the death of the family shopping together?
Funnily we were allowed to keep the razor blades, the 18 rated dvd and rud bull.

lol i`m 22 and get ID`ed for scratch cards still, when you produce your ID they spend 10 mins trying to work out how old you are
( maybe thats just the shop workers near me)0 -
She wouldn't even look at mine though, she needed all of our ID's even my 13 year old's who doesn't have any being 5 years underage.
I should have just left the shopping and went to asda.0 -
How is the checkout assistant supposed to know that you arn't infact a 'under cover' family for the cops parked outside? I think her job, to her, is worth much more than your JD&coke.
Asside from that why couldn't you go in alone and purchased the said JD&coke with your ID?
Also who's to say you wouldn't have had the same response at Asda0 -
OH has the same thing a couple of years ago in Sainsbury's with our (then 16yo) DD. He was buying a bottle of Merlot and as DD was under age the assistant refused to sell it to him. He did point out that Merlot wasn't really the alcohol of choice of a teenager and it was in fact to go with our dinner that evening. Still he was refused so they left the store and OH went back in without DD and picked up another bottle of Merlot, only to be chased through the store by the manager yelling "I know she's outside" and taking the bottle from him
I appreciate that there have to be rules and that we have an underage drink problem in this country but this rule obviously means that you cannot have any person under the age of 18 with you in a supermarket if you are buying alcohol !0 -
They are only complying with the store policies. No retailer wants to be the store that sold the whisky to the adult, who gives it to a kid, who then dies from alcohol poisoning. It's responsible retailing. If they break the law it's a £10k fine, possible imprisonment and loss of job. What would YOU do...?0

I must be very scary, because I was that astounded that I was asked that I told him "I must be the flippin' Virgin Mary if you think I'm under 18" as I had my then 10 year old son with me and he backed off!0
-
Well the store staff don't know that it's your son! And the policy is if you look under 25 you must prove that you are over 18. End of. And if you have an under 18 with you, most shops will not sell it to you.0

My 18 year old son went to our local shop with his id, but the assistant somehow had got the think 25 to mean over 25 to buy and wouldn't sell it to him!0

I work for a supermarket, and have never been told to check a full family's ID.
We ask for one form of I.D, and if that person has it, they are allowed to buy the alcohol, regardless of others in the party, unless theres a reason to doubt that person is actually going going to pass it onto a child.
If this is the way things are going to go, then i'll never be allowed to buy booze again, as i always have my 3 year old with me.
Seems strange she wanted to see everybodys I.D to me.. x0 -

That's poor training on the store's part tbh. They throw the fines/ prison threats about so much that the store staff are terrified! I'm a freelance trainer/ assessor and I've come across that too! Ridiculous!!0
