What is more annoying is that they dont ID for garden shears.
Also once in ASDA me and DH had spent about £100 on stuff for our new home but they wouldn't let us have the knives because of no ID
DH recently got ID'd for a cutlery set. Luckily he had his passport on him, we were very low on cutlery, i dont understand how it gets lost?0 -
Last week I got asked if I was over 21 when I was buying tippexe, today I got asked if I was a school leaver! I'll be 29 in a few months!
Have to be over 18 for tippex, as it is classed as a solvent.Evansangel wrote: »Alot of places dont accept citizen cards now. When i worked for the co-op it was only driving lisence or passport.
I got ID'd in Wilkinson for a pocket sewing kit...
I can sort of understand this one, due to the needle - anything with a sharp object, you need to be over 18.
Found this site, which was fairly interesting

I'd love to get asked for ID, I never got asked for it when I was 15! Don't suppose it's going to happen now then when I am heading towards the big 4-0!0

not read all the threads, but, i work in a shop,,,where we have to do endless staff training on "think 25",,, we also have internal and external "mystery shoppers",,, if we fail internal we get a warning,,, if we fail several we can get dismissed. If we fail external, we go to police station get finger prints etc, get a court date and then get a fine,,, oh and for good measure we also get dismissed from the company.
So, as you can see, a lot of us shop workers , work under this "threat" knowing we have test purchasers coming into store on a regular basis. Therefore i am going to be th
orough in checking id, on those who appear to look under 25. There is no way i am getting a criminal record and loosing my job, just because some people take offence... i personally would love to be asked for id
Somebody mentioned on page 3 that the store gets and pays the fine, Can i just remind people that some of us actually hold our own personal licence for selling alcohol, which means that if we are caught selling alcohol to underage people WE get the fines and WE get endorsements put on our alcohol licence, and we can also have it suspended for 6 months or for major offences Forfeited for 5 years.
for anyone wanting to know more about the personal licence see

Quoting these as none of the people complaining about the shop staff seem to have noticed them.Deleted_User wrote: »The general public don't seem to realise that the member of staff could ultimately end up with a conviction for an offence with a minor if caught selling to someone under age.
Now what does an offence with a minor sound like? Makes you sound like a pervert doesn't it!
Think next time you are in the supermarket moaning because you have been asked to prove your age.
Or don't they care if someone else loses their job?0 -
At asda there are a pack of smart price teaspoons that have been obviously put down as cutlery on the systems so the till always prompts you to ask for id - that always made me laugh - what age do you need to be for teaspoons lol That and the age 3+ wii games lol
I think people getting upset about not getting their alcohol are a bit rediculous and the shop has the right to refuse. I've heard kids say things like can you get this for me mum and it can be dvds or alcohol whilst they are doing the weekly shop and it is illegal to sell it if you know its not for the person who is overage.
One young lady gave me her provisional driving licence I think hoping I didnt check it properly but I did and she wasnt even old enough although she tried to argue she was and the DVLA had got her DOB wrong - erm well then why are you trying to use it to buy alcohol and not sending it back to the DVLA sweety hhhmmm. Her arguing actually meant we then refused all her friends alcohol as they may have been buying it for her, when at first we were happy to keep serving them. Friday twilight was the worst shift ever, so glad I've moved to the pharmacy and now you cant buy your alcohol from me at all.0 -

I think most people think more about their own convenience than somebody losing their job. Sad:(Try to be a rainbow in someone's cloud.0 -

Most complaints are about the stupid things they're being ID'd for, not the member of staff who refuses to serve them.
A kid trying to buy alcohol or a knife is one thing. Somebody wanting a PG Blu-Ray or a sewing needle is quite another. What can you even do with a sewing needle, poke somebody's eye out? If you were stupid enough to do that then you'd use something more gangsta than a sewing needle.'til the end of the line0 -
I've not been refused alcohol when my 11/12 year old DD has been with me. When buying a drink for my 18 year old DD, there has never been an issue either, nor was there any query when I bought a Kill Bill boxset when she was 16.
Maybe I just appear respectable?

My sister when 24 WITH Id was refused alcohol in Sainsbugs.. would ring my son.. then aged 14 who would go in and buy it without being questioned.
She is 27 and still gets Id'd most places despite having her passport with her is still refused... it is ludicrous! and there is no common sense brought into play at all with a lot of staff.
We bought a huge bottle of port (for OH's dad for christmas) without issue.. it could have been to drug the 4 month old baby in the trolley lol.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -

Oh, and another time I saw a girl's passport, noticed her unusual name (it was double- barrelled and foreign) and asked her how it was pronounced. She told me the second bit, and appeared to forget that there was another bit to her own name :rotfl:. I had been about to serve her but that completely threw me.
It could well be she didnt usually use the other bit - I've come across that before. I have a double-barrelled surname but often dont use one part of it but its present on official documents..
I agree they are getting a bit daft with some things though - I've not been ID'd in quite a while. Funniest was when I visiting my best mate and I popped into the local shop (where her hubby happens to work) to buy some booze for our girls night. This would be a few years ago now, I think I was about 27 at the time. The woman at the counter peered at me and asked me how old I was. 27, I said, would you like to see my driving licence? She looked at it and peered at me suspiciously again. Is this all for you? she asked of my bottle of vodka
No, I said, its for my friend and I to share, I said. Im on my way to her house now.
She then asked if she was over 18! Er, yes, I said. She still looked undecided but with the best timing in the world friend's hubby appeared and confirmed I was actually on my way to visit his wife and yes she was over 18! She looked so embarrassed bless her but I could understand why she had to ask.*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200
