Keiss the silly posh car is an automatic so its a bit easier for him to drive - thanks for the recipes - my beetroot came to nowt - but we do have courgettes.

Cleared out the fridge and had a vegetable inventory. I think perhaps life began in the bottom of my fridge - I'm sure I can see primodal soup in there. Bleurgh.

Reduced veggie stash for this week

    Mushrooms
    Cauli (reduced 10p)
    onions (full price 90p)
    Brocolli (reduced 25p)
    Cabbage (reduced 15p x2)
    Courgettes (home grown) (free)
    Leeks (home grown) (free)
    Peppers (full price 63p each_
Iceberg - not much taste but at 7p I thougth why not
    A reduced neep (6p)
    Reduced tatties (10p)
    Carrots (reduced to 65p)
    Plums (25p reduced)
    Apples (50p f/p)

That about it for now. Might add to it with bananas - but we'll see, we don't need much other bits of veg this week. I might go bramlbing/elderberrying again. The garden has cabbages/kale/carrots/parsnips and leeks. Oh and the courgette might give a few more.

Keiss too hot - wow - not very hot here - harvest hasn't gone well.

    Morning Pippi & posse,

I'm in for a store cupboard challenge this month :D, although I did a bit of shopping yesterday & only omitted to buy milk & cheese  which are essential to DDs staple diet.

Lovely & sunny here, but we need rain, I need to relocate soem bits of veg patch & also have onion sets & garlic to plant out & the ground is like rock. Sandy, rock :(.

Need more flowers too, although mini holly hocks are having a second wave.

    Have a cheery day all
    xx
  • Yay another store cupboard challenger :) Lula sandy and rock - thats quite an acheivement - its so wet here its crackers.

I've often read about planting onions and garlic out at this time of year is it very good? I'd be afraid here they'd rot but have been thinking of giving it a go.......

Cheese is my ds's staple - thankfully I've got alot of that stashed!

Have a lovely cheerful day yourself.

I can't bake until a hen lays an egg (Mr F had all the eggs this am to take down the road) - wonder if I stand with foot tapping that might help?

Only gamer and me for tea tonight - dd going to a party.

glad you got your bag back before it had to be flown ashore on a passing seagull.

we tidied up our garden on thurs so pulled out a lot of toms and courgettes which were over (once i'd taken their goodies off them obviously lol) i did discover my chilli plants have lots of chilli's on them, not bad for plants which were left untended for most of their time. They're currently green but i'm sure they were red on the packet, will that happen if i leave them on the plant or do i take them off now and ripen them on the window sill?

    Morning Pippi & posse,
    loving that!

Pippi, what are you like, if you wanted a mad dash first thing in the morning to the ferry then it should have been to wave all serenely from the quayside, not grab your bag :rotfl::rotfl: glad you got it back though or the storecupboard challenge would have been an absolute necessity. Mind it might have brought Mr F back quicker!

    beetroot brownies sound scrummy.

I cant join the storecupboard challenge as my storecupboard is now officially depleted. Need to do a big shop today :(

Interesting to see the cost of your veggies there. Here full price peppers are 99p each  I remember in my old town I could get three for 99p. Some greatly reduced prices there too. I bought some reduced potatoes yesterday and they were reduced to 90p :( I think that my theory about living here being more expensive is proving true.

  • Well done lt you can do either. I've harvested mine and have them in a bowl.

Hall cleaned, kitchen half cleaned, uliity room started.....

Chopping chilli for pickling then more tidying

Just popping in very briefly - hair colouring & machined washing as I type & sip coffee.

Pippi - no proper idea about onion planting :rotfl:- it's my first year of veg plotting ( when sharing allotment - I just did as I was told - dig mostly )

It said on the pack they could be planted from autumn onwards ...

Bearing in mind I have seriously lazy veg - the leeks which went out in April ( I think) are still doing naff all, I thought it might be a good idea to get them settled in now.

At least my dear Connie (pear) & Victoria (plum) are looking quite vigorous, I have high hopes of them for bearing fruit next year & they look like a bossy pair so maybe they'll chivvy the other veg along a bit :D

Er yes, I do think of my plants as having characters ... no? not normal ? Aah well, it takes all sorts :p

Mmmmm, slow cooker on with courgette, pepper (have put some seeds on a saucer to dry out to try and grow some next year, is that right?), parents' home grown tomatoes, carrot, celery, onion, garlic and some bean and barley mix I dragged out of the freezer, that's a couple of meals sorted (or just one big one if I'm more honest ;) )

Just watching last night's Strictly with DD before we think about getting dressed and starting to tackle the house and garden.....
  • Lula they o have characters, thanks for replying :) I'll give it a go. Mr f now on mainland, hope he drives safe.

Kitchen clean here, communal brekkie been had, chillis chopped vinegar'd and dans la fridge.

Coffee drunk, dishwasher emptied, floor swept. Radio 2 on. Very funny.

Kk yum! I'm keeping seeds too.

Need do some baking in a bit. Turned elderberry juice into jelly, it's yum.

:j I'm hoping its only a week - thats what I've been informed anyway :j - sorry didn't see this earlier in all my dashing.

    They are!!!

Oh dear but then it will last a long time ;)

Funny eh - definitely got the price right for the peppers - the other reduced veg has been scammed over the week - often the time aint right for bargains but now and again we've got it right - teaching on wed nights helps and I had a meeting in town on the thursday too

I think you might be more expensive for stuff like that - our petrols now £1.44 down from £1.50

I hope you have a nice day today - you're right about trees I've several favourites.

Mr F rang to say how beautiful the A9 was with the trees all yellows and reds - I wanted to travel down with him just to see them - but couldnt' afford too. Maybe we can scam something I really need a mainland fix big style.

Thank you for lovely comment on blog :) you're an :A
