Hi all
Still raining here but when i ventured down the garden to put some food out for the birds I noticed something I've kept meaning to ask Pippi about.
I have a 'creeping Phlox'. It's beautiful when in flower but this year it's gone a bit mad to say the least. It was near the edge of a border and was suposed to 'tumble gently over the rock edging to soften the lines'. It hasn't. It's run amok but instead of going over the edge it's heading for the middle of a very wide border where I want to have taller things.
I picked up a bit at the farthest edge and it isn't rooted down. What I wondered was, how easy is it for me to take bits of the outer edge and try to take cuttings. What would be the best way to do this? Do you want some?
Help?!
OK, not done that one before but

Personally I'd go for doing semi ripe cuttings, hormone powder, a sharp compost mix with sand and see how you go.
ALTHOUGH - other things I've read speak about the best results from division in the spring.
And, of course you could try the old layering it bit, cover the edges of it with a mixture of sand and compost at the edges almost burying it and see if you encourage it to root insitu and you'll have rooted cuttings later in the spring, but I'd be more inclined to do that in late spring/summer
NO help at all am I?:rotfl:Too much info!Total debt 26/4/18 <£1925 we were getting there.

Now, given the forecast I was thinking it was perfect walking weather!
cheery will vouch for my crazy weather walking tendancies, I think the strongest wind we've gone out for an adventure in is 72mph - quite fun!
But, I promise I'll be sensible and I'll clear the garden etc up today later - its already got up a fair bit.

Morning Pippi - food sounds good, volunteering sounds happy - but boulders in the pockets please, yes. What about MrF, is he going to be there?2023: the year I get to buy a car0
-
Hey up kc - me think tethering also required its not nice today (30mph wind and sideways battering the house rain) but I think the worst of it will arrive on Monday.
Mr F will indeed be here - I'm very stupidly worried about his posh car - thinking where is good to park it to avoid anything colliding with it - must do a proper thorough tidy up out there later today, even if its full waterproof clobber on , tethered ankles and like you say boulders in the pockets.
Given that we've had stuff just fly away here - I think I'll make sure outside stuff is tucked inside the sheds where I can.
I'll have to tie the chickens together like they do up mount everest - now thats a thought, we've climbing rope somewhere..............................have a great day - I'm thinking in this the recycling place won't be very busy.

Oh dear to things colliding with posh car - although I'd say let him worry about that
Yay to reduced bargains! :T :T Have cheery time at volunteering place! :T :T Did I sent you a (very bad!) photo of our bunting?!0 -
Definitely get everything inside where you can - Mr F's car too, probably, isn't it? After all, if something bashes into it from the farm down the road - its mashed!
Hopefully you won't get overrun at the recycling place tho. Hope its a good one for *you*2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
