They are Keiss, its been eventful at work as well. Saw friend's new flat today and got to meet her cat who normally is really shy. She just about pounced straight up into my arms wanting cuddles and attention, it was so sweet (why is it animals know when you need a bit of tlc?).

Got my insurance renewal through and its 5 quid less than last year! Well chuffed (over 35 now so guess that makes a difference). Also got voucher from council to get 3 free bags of compost so that will do for my potatoes, onions and tomatoes.

like the compost bargain. Nice one. One of the things I miss over here is subsidised gardening stuff. There again they don't have water butts over here, which always surprises the hell out of me. However now I live in a house with tank water only (no mains), I understand it better. Now I want to keep the main tank topped up.

i can't imagine not having mains water Chev. I know what it's like to live without gas though.

round here the council dump lorry loads of soil improver at a nearby nature reserve/lake so that people can shovel as much as they like, it's usually done at spring bank weekend. we've not done too badly over the last few years but it's hard work.

Yes LT it is pretty odd. Thing is though that 50 years ago where I now live there were NO houses (think of that!), it was just farms - kids went by horse to school 10 miles away or walked you get the idea. There were a few bachs up here, which are basic holiday homes - which had tank water, but that was it. When Auckland started spreading north, and farmers saw how much their land was worth, they started selling it BUT, they would sell a parcel of land do an individual (most often) who would either move a house onto the land from somewhere else, or else build it themselves. Either way their was no overarching authority to lay down water pipes, though everyone could see the need for waste pipes :). So whilst the town we lived in til October was mainly town (mains) water, this peninsula isn't. Some new houses do tap into the mains that were laid later, but it is alot of money that people don't want to afford when the tank is free water...

Though I do worry about how it is filtered....

Hope you have had a good weekend Unix, lots of ((((((hugs)))))).

Wow, lovely to have rainwater..though tough when you have a drought!! Much nicer than the hard water we have here. When we had no water during the floods a few years back, we survived using the water from the waterbutts for washing and cooking. My hair has never been so soft and "bouncy"!! Perhaps I should be raiding my waterbutts again!!

Have a good week all x

Hijack all you like guys, you're more than welcome. :D

we went to my Gran's on saturday and to the garden centre on sunday. Got some daffs for £1 and a planter for £2 (bargain!). I couldn't have gotten the plants for that. So my front garden now has a bit of colour. OH tidied up the back garden and sorted out the fire pits. I tidied the front garden, some of the stuff needs to dry out a bit before I can tidy it up. My japonica is flowering! one of my rose bushes has buds (I've not pruned it this year yet), the other one hasn't gotten any growth at all so I'm worried I've lost it over the winter (I really hope not as its tea rose).

We also had a nosey at conservatories whilst at the garden centre, now we can't afford one but I did have the realisation that if I had no debt at all (most of you will know why I have it), then I could have saved enough to buy the conservatory and a new car and still have some left over! It was a frightening thought.

Chev, I grew up without mains water (I remember having to wash my hair which was waist length in one basin of water). The droughts were the worst. Our water came from a hillside spring which meant I learnt the hard way to add the cordial to the water and not the other way round as i came nose to nose with a ppond shrimp!

Not logged on tonight, am chilling. Work is doing my head in completely (watching Superscrimpers), so need a bit of down time.
