Orange took £20 off me on Sunday 23rd October 2011 to unlock an iPhone 3gs, they stated at the time 20 to 25 days to unlock, which I think was pathetic anyway in this day and age of electronic transfers.
It is now 22 days later and still no word about the unlock, all itunes keeps saying is
"The sim card inserted in this iPhone does not appear to be supported"
This is with various different sims that work in another iPhone 3gs.

I phoned Orange about 10 days ago to ask for my iphone 3g to be unlocked, they told me 14-30 days and that it would cost £20. I gave the go-ahead and then about 5/6 days later, I had reason to phone them again so decided to check on the unlocking. It seems my request hadn't been actioned and I'd lost time on this - I'm going to Beijing on Sunday and could really do it the phone being unlocked by then to use with a local sim in it, which I already have.
I had a bit of whinge about it and they have assured me that they have now put 'high priority' on my unlocking and have waived the fee. I have 6 days before I go to Beijing so quite concerned now that this won't be done on time. The only good thing is that I won't really need to use my phone straight away once I arrive, I can wait a few days but am a bit miffed that it wasn't actioned straight away.
Has anyone had experience of Orange unlocking their iphone in less than 14 days?
    Thanks

Orange are taking 30 DAYS TO UNLOCK - it was advised last week there are only a few people in the department that arranges for the unlocking (through iTunes), and no additional staff are being dradted in, so there's a very large backlog. Don't hold your breath, it WILL happen, and you can't go anywhere else.....

Thanks for that, nice of them to tell me, but then again, they wouldn't would they?
Might just have to buy a cheap phone in Beijing to use until my phone is unlocked. We're there for 4 weeks before moving out there in January, so would probably be worth it.

25 days now since unlock request and payment of £20 taken by Orange to unlock an iPhone 3gs, and I'm still waiting....
As Busby says about there only being a few people in the department for unlocking, well wake up Orange and get your supposedly customer service sorted out and hire more folks, then again this says it all that they probably can't be bothered, we've had the payment now so let them wait....
    Pathetic
  • I had a nightmare trying to unlock my 3GS.. It took 3 months.

The original person I spoke to passed the details on to their manager who then 'forgot' to pass my details to Apple for the code.

Very poor service from orange, I then put another reuqest in which never happened.

Luckily the third time the request was actioned and I got the code within 2 weeks.
    Soooo much hassle!
I would have used my own initiative if someone would have told me to!

27 days now and still no unlock
Initially told 20 to 25 days to unlock and still nothing.
Orange say it's "going through", but without any written confirmation, who knows.
What I do know is I'm not impressed.

31 days now and still waiting:mad:
Orange promised an email/unlock on Monday 21st Nov, neither happened.
Rang Orange last night and was promised an email/unlock this Thursday 24th Nov, I'm not holding my breath.
What a joke of a company.
  • I received my unlock email a few days ago from Apple, so it took about 14 days at most. I haven't been able to unlock my phone as the local sim card purchased in Beijing isn't a 3g one, so we have to get that first before trying again.

Sorry for those who haven't had much luck :(
