Orange Unlocking iPhone 3gs
Does anyone know how long it takes for Orange to unlock a payg iPhone 3gs? I have owned it for about 18 months & am still an Orange customer.
They told me it takes 14 days & costs £20, which was fine only it's now well over 14 days, my 3gs is still locked & they can't or won't tell me why it's taking so long
It's like banging your head against a brick wall talking to Orange CS, they really don't care about their customers

Orange send the request to Apple, who update their servers, then tell orange it is unlocked, who then tell you, however apple will unlock the phone as soon as its requested but may not tell orange for a few weeks, back up everything on your phone and do a full restore via itunes, if the server has been updated then your phone will get unlocked during the restore:beer:0

Hi BlueFox
We would normally expect to receive confirmation from Apple within 14 days. Our Customer Service Helpdesk should be able to check this for you, so I'm sorry to hear that they haven't been able to tell you what's going on.
I'd be happy to look into this for you if you'd like? We can't take account information on here, but if you contact us using the information on our Profile page, I'll see if I can chase this up for you.
I hope we can help!

There are ways but unless it's done by Apple in their database when upgrades or fixes come along it may be re-locked.
The best way is to contact your provider, who may charge for it but it will be a permanant fix. Anything else as I said may be re-locked by any upgrade /fix in the future.0 -
Start with the network to which it is locked to. Assuming it is out of the minimum term, this can be undertaken easily and usually at no cost. Orange, however take up to a month to process the request. This is by far the better option than trying to Jailbreak, as this depresses the value if you try to re-sell (and IOS5 will simply re-lock it again).0

I went to the apple store on monday to have my previous faulty iphone 4 replaced which was infact unlocked but the replacement they gave me is locked and since then I have changed providors.0 -
That baseband is only unlockable with a Gevey Sim, which is a bit risky as it requires you to call an emergency services number and hang up before it is picked up. Can't you contact the phone company who the network is to get it unlocked? That way it is permanently unlocked, regardless of updating software.0
