It's not that many years ago that it was taxed at the standard rate of 17.5%! I would certainly like to see reusable ones zero-rated for VAT.

Just checked and it was reduced to 5% in 2001. Also, from a quick read it's all sanitary products, no mention of the washable ones being excluded.
  • Well I just wish I had bought the mooncup when it first came out! Why did I stall from buying it when I first read about it on MSE? Seemed to good to be true but it really is excellent. No turning back for me now.
Brilliant at night-no more leaky tampons! Saved about £4 this week at a gues so three months time its paid for itself. Only wish I had done this before, I really do.
It holds a lot-so no worrying when at work-overnight-on a day trip or whatever.
No carrying around bundles of "supplies" in your bag-trying to be discreet.
Oh I could go on about it forever but I wont't. All I will say is "go for it". It is exactly the same as using a non-applicator tampon in terms of everyday use.

I ordered mine the same day I first heard about them (will be 2 years come August), but I still find myself wondering why I hadn't heard of them before :o
  • Mine turned up today, looking forward to using them. Sad huh?
Anyone fancy buying my degree? It will only cost you £18k.

After reading all these threads I have bought myself a Mooncup and some washable pantiliners from Lunawolf.co.uk. These are beautifully made and great quality - can't wait to use them! Check out her website.

Now into the second month with the mooncup I really don't find a real need for sanitary towels. Don't want to go down the road of advertising hype so Im making my own in a fashion. As the mooncup is so good-is only as a precaution for heavy days. What I did this month is I spent all of £2 on some brown face flannels-2 packs of 6 in poundstretcher. Just folded a flanell over into 3 layers and used it as it was. Cheap flannels are thin so wash and dry quicker. Discreet as its just a flannel. Chose brown for obvious reasons. Using the mooncup it hardly got anything on itof course. Washed it in the shower as suggested before. Why didn't I do it before!!!!!!! So this month was cost free and no chaffing from synthetic fibres-no leaking-no staining-and nothing yuck! The other thing I am aware of wich people hate to discuss is a complete lack of any odours. Previously, however clean I was, i was always aware of some odour. This is far more hygenic.
Re implants-to suggest women have those is ridiculous. For a lot of women it would be dangerous!!!! Not everyone is suited to it medically. That is plain ignorance.Even if it is suitable, what if you are trying to get pregnant? Or just had a baby and are breastfeeding? Hormones to stop periods? Madness!

I'm into the third time with the mooncup and can now thoroughly recommend the peeweez pads as my mooncup sudenly leaked in the middle of the night (it wasn't full so not sure why but luckily I was awake at the time). Anyway despite the obviously abnormally large fow which came out at one time the pad did not leak.

Right, am I going wrong somewhere here???? On 2nd day of using a mooncup, and getting on ok, apart from one thing! I'm having trouble urinating while the mooncup is in. It seems to be squashing my "water pipe" somewhat. Has anyone else come across this problem, or is it just me?

Is the mooncup in the right position? Is it high enough? Can you feel it when it is in?

    wow what an eye opener!!!

i am really tempted to order a mooncup for myself. i also have a 13 year old who has been having periods for about 6 months now. is there an age limit on mooncups, would she be able to cope with it? i am scared about TSS and it panicks me thinking she is only 13 and has to do this for another 50 years. she goes to boarding school so the washable ST's are not feasable at all.

does anyone else have young daughters who use them?

    any help would be great

    thanks
