Thanks for this thread everyone!
Since having my son 15 months ago I've suffered from very irregular and heavy bleeding. I use pads everyday and have been wanting to switch to washables for some time but was worried about leaking/staining etc. This thread has answered many of my questions and I have now ordered some washable pads from weenotions. I'm looking forward to using them. I find disposables plasticky and uncomfortable so it will be great to feel comfortable again!
My son wears real nappies - just one questions. Is it ok just to pop pads in with the nappy wash? I've ordered plain organic cotton ones so there should be no colour run. I tend to do a nappy wash most days but not always everyday.
Not ready to try a mooncup just yet though.....maybe in a few months.0 -
I am so glad I read this thread! I have been thinking about using the mooncup or washable san t's for a while now and this has given me the kick I needed! Off to check out the weenotions website now. Thanks everybody0

Thought I'd let you all know that thanks to this thread I invested in my first set of washable sanitary lady things! They're hanging up to dry after being washed now and I have to say I'm ridiculously impressed!
I found the more absorbant than any disposable towel on the market (and I think I've tried almost all of them!)
Comfier than all the disposable ones I've tried!
They were a bit fiddly to popper onto my knickers but I figure I'll get used to that!
Um, *delicate mode* there was no odour at all, I was astonished! While I'm in delicate mode I'd like to share with you that fact that my overly sensitive lady bits really liked the softness, I'll leave it at that, sorry for the TMI!
No leakage, but I did intentionally buy ones with a PUL backing for that reason!
Becuase they're so absorbant it wasn't gross at all, you need a bit of a strong stomach when you rinse them but it really there was no more, um, contact than you would normally have with dispoables!
They washed beautifully, a tiny bit of staining so I might put them on a longer wash (instead of the 30 minute quick wash) next time but nothing that the sun won't bleach out. I tested them with a towel and a couple of hankies and nothing that went in with them came out any worse for wear for it!
All in all I'm very chuffed with them, it was so much easier than I was expecting! Oh, and for everyone's information I'm no one's mum so I haven't really done any nappies or anything, so I haven't been de-sensitised to yuck!
Thanks for your post, I've been toying with the idea of trying out re-usables for a while but wasn't sure. According to you and AussieLass it doesn't really sound that bad. I might go with her idea of trying them out at night to start off with..I was just worried about the bulky feeling for out of the house."If you bend down to pick up a penny, you'll never be poor"

My friend bungs her washable SPs in to soak with nappies and both her and baby show no signs of anything happening to either of them due to this!! I reckon it is fine to, providing that if they are fastened with plastic poppers or velcro as metal can react to nappysan type stuff (if you use it).
It took me over a year to buy my mooncup. (TMI ALERT) Since I had my 5th child my periods have become very heavy so I was worried about using the mooncup, but on the first couple of days I double up with washable SP and I get on fine. When you are ready, give the cup a go, they are fantastic!0 -
i read about th mooncup a while ago and have not brought one yet . i wish there had been such a thing when i was 16 i would have save so much money over the last 18 years0

Tried washables a few years ago as I really like the idea (not squeamish at all) but had to stop using them as they chafed so bad I was really sore (they were a lovely soft cotton too)Kondo'ed 76 items from wardrobe, 4 carrier bags of books0

Mooncup user of 18 months+ here - no going back for me! I did have a bit of difficulty with it in the beginning but I was determined it was going to work out OK. Hate the idea of using anything else now.
Really disappointed I hadn't heard of it earlier though0 -
Another vote for the cup. I got a Diva Cup last year, and after a bit of fiddling, it's been great. https://www.divacup.com. Some folks on another board I visit really like "The Keeper" too, but it's made of latex, so that's a consideration for some (including myself).Pick battles big enough to matter, small enough to win. - Jonathan Kozol0

Just got my mooncup and ready to try it next week! Thinking about it, its rather like the contraceptive "cap".
Having used that-I have no excuse. Got one from ethical shopping for £15.99 inc postage plus a free lidt easter egg and I also found a £5 voucher online which brought the price down to this. Without the egg I think it was £17.99 inc postage tho.Annual Grocery budget 2018 is £1500 pa £125 calendar month £28.84 pw for 3 adults0
